Weight Lifting/Competitions: Is it a sport?

I've got a question for you all.


1) Is weight lifting a sport?
2) If you said no, is it a sport if its in a competition? (Powerlifting)


I think competition can be debated to be a sport but recreational lifting sure isn't.

How does it not? You can get winded from singing, therefore, that is a sign of physical exertion. Takes skill as well. And you compete.

No, I don't think just weight lifting is a sport, I believe power lifting in competition is a sport.

 

I guess you could call it a sport. But it's hard as now a days there are soo many weightlifting based sports. Cross fit games, Power lifting, shock put, body building this list goes on, making this a weird subject when you really start thinking about it.

 

Many variations to it. It's training and not sure I set regular training a sport.

 

Powerlifting / Crossfit / Olympic Lifting - Yes.

Bodybuilding - No.

 

Crossfit as in a competition for it? Or just the training.

 

They have cross fit Olympics now real gay. And body build is 98% weight lifting lol

How can you define what is a 'sport' and what isn't a 'sport' when there isn't tangible factors involved. Floor dance, darts, basketball, swimming, where is the corilation, the defining factor?

maybe your question could be better worded - Do YOU consider weightlifting a sport? because the answer to your question is yes. It's a sport.

 

Lol this is an opinionated question buddy. I don't think I'm going to go publish what defines a sport from answers on my thread from Sythe.org. I assumed most knew by asking this question it was pointed towards YOU.

No matter, lets get some more opinions.

 

In my opinion i would say that it is more of a competition. I love weightlifiting however it is a hobby and the term "compete" is used among the professionals.

So after that, if anything i would say its more of a profession which has competitions in it.

 

yes it is; like competitive eating; it's mentally and physically challenging.
