Gf with unknown, frightening symptoms [sleep/wake cycle related]

    Hello everyone!

This might become a tl;dr story, please do not post random comments which you have googled, I have read everything I could find on google, I'm looking for people's opinion / whether they have experienced similar in the past:

My gf (she is 19) has a history of 2 instances of sleep walking [3 and 14 years of age] where she said someone had called her and wanted to leave her house on both occasions [the same 'thing' was calling her in both situations].

She is known to have somniloquy, I have managed to have conversations with her in her sleep on many different occasions.

    THE STORY / THE PROBLEM:

The story that I'm looking for feedback on dates back to only two days. My best friend from university is facing disciplinary proceedings tomorrow and he came over both nights [I live at my gf on weekdays currently] so we could discuss on how he should go about it.

It all started, when my friend said hello to my gf constantly for 5 minutes and she'd respond each and every time [I even videod this, cause I found it funny]

TWO HOURS LATER she started speaking voluntarily in her dream, saying 'He is mine', 'he is mine' - I was next to her. Suddenly her voice became much more aggressive and much more manly; she said: GET THE FUCK AWAY.

Tell you the truth, I got scared as fuck and woke her up instantly. She told me, she had dreamt that she was in a mall, she first entered a bank-like building where people were staring at her evilly and once she left, all the windows had broken near her, I was at the end of the hall and the hall became longer and longer and she saw me further and further away. Eventually she passed some doors and saw me sitting on a chair with someone standing behind me, who appeared to be a good feet taller than me standing, but she couldn't describe what the person / thing standing behind me looked like. The GET THE FUCK AWAY was aimed at that thing.

    NEXT NIGHT [yesterday]:

Since my and my best friend's sleeping cycle is absolutely fucked up [I usually sleep in the afternoon instead of the night and so does he] he came over again at 2am - Again the hey-hey joke was played. About a good 15 minutes later, she said come here and grabbed my shirt and starting pulling me hard towards her. This time: 'come closer' 'come closer' - I am right here I responded. 'No you aren't' she pulled me closer. She grabbed me tight and started making sounds of a suffering / scared person. You could hear she was very terrified. Incoherent speech followed in a similar tone as the GET THE FUCK AWAY the night before. This is when I woke her up. ALSO: She once grabbed my face in her dream.

Explanation after I woke her up:

More things [again can't explain what they were] were wanting to take me away from her, I was a 2year old baby and she wanted to defend me. She put her hand over my face to cover me so they couldn't see me.

THE MOST INTRIGUING / FUCKED UP PART:

Me and my friend woke her up, she made us coffee, we all smoked a cigarette and talked for 30 mins and she'd eventually fall back asleep, no more episodes followed. She did have an episode of strong jealousy when she woke up, over a girl I'm not even in contact with anymore.

We were talking about 3 hours ago and when I told her all the things that happened, SHE DIDN'T FUCKING REMEMBER A SINGLE THING. HER EYES WERE OPEN AND SHE WAS RESPONSIVE IN THIS HALF AN HOUR.

Also, the first night, she told us we both slept and she put blankets over us and she went out to smoke and she was 1000% sure this happened, when in reality non of us had slept a single minute and this never happened. I never managed to convince her 100% that this story didn't happen.

I'm planning to watch her sleep tonight and possible take her to a sleeping specialist in the very near future.

Thanks for your time, any feedback is welcome and appreciated.

PS: SHE IS NOT ON ANY TYPE OF MEDICATION NOR DOES SHE HAVE ANY MENTAL ISSUES.

It's obvious, but your best bet is to bring her to a specialist ASAP. Taking the responsibility into your own hands is going to be difficult if you only live with her on the weekends. For her safety, it'd be better to bring her to people who know about this kind of stuff. There's not much you can do and not much anyone can say other than to bring her to a specialist (like you said you're planning on). She may have night terrors of sorts, or something on a lower scale (normally with night terrors, people wake themselves up in a cold sweat). Knowing she has somniloquy, it's possible she's just having "normal" dreams that we sometimes have but don't remember (since apparently we only remember our most recent dream) but is telling you about them (through having somniloquy). It could be nothing to be worried about, but at the same time, the mind is a phenomenon.

Best of luck, I hope all turns out okay.

No one here (as far as I know) is any type of doctor or psychologist. I guarantee you most answers are going to be googled. Don't take advice from people who don't know what they're talking about. She clearly has a psychological problem, whether it may be minor or major, just go to a psychiatrist and explain this to them.

Maybe someone will have a personal story to tell, but in the end it's not going to be a "just drink a glass of milk before sleeping" solution, she'll have to end up seeing a specialist.

Best of luck in the future with your situation.

I am going to keep it short and sweet take her to a doctor. Even if it costs you a little bit of cash ( depending if you have health insurance or not). It would be worth it assuming you really care about her and or love her.

As a child I had two reoccurring dreams that alternated but at least occurred once weekly.

The first dream was I would get out of bed still sleeping but appear awake to my parents. In my mind they were talking super super slowly and their face was melting. I was often so confused that I threw up following waking up nearly 30 minutes later. I couldn't be woken up while in the dream and it had to pass first. This dream terrified me. The dream stopped happening around the age of 8 for no obvious reason. I'm glad it has still gives me shivers thinking about it.

Second dream. I would "wake up" and see a floating greyish entity at the end of my bed, which wasn't a soothing entity, it wasn't threatening but it wasn't in my room for nothing. I saw it probably 20 times. I always tried screaming but it never worked. I would close my eyes and eventually it would be gone and I'd wake up and could call my mom.

They took me to a sleep psychiatrist but no source of the dreams was ever discovered. It would seem your girlfriends dreams do stem from something and will likely be solved much easier than my 5-8 year old dreams.

Damn your story creeped me out. Reminds me of paranormal activity shiz. Thank god I haven't had any experiences like that, unfortunately can't really give you any advice. But as many others mentioned you should take her to a specialist.

My support is with you man. Hope it gets resolved, and she gets well soon.

This even scared me more, entity thing reminds me of insidious. I'm glad you don't experience it anymore though.

Legit you need to go to a hypnotherapist. Those arnt dreams you won't like what you find out and have them video you during it.

The entity thing is gone now. Oddly enough though my dad asked me if I have seen it since about a month ago. I'm not sure why he asked but I'm assuming he may have seen something similar? I'm not saying I believe in that sort of thing just a tad strange no?

Also the melting faces dream scared me a lot more than the entity as a child.

When I was a child I use to have these types of episodes and I would wake up screaming at my parents, I sometimes just talk in my sleep now. You should defiantly take her to a specialist. Show him the recordings as well.

As others have said before, I would recommend you two to get professional help as well.

What I'm about to say now is probably going to sound really stupid, but make sure there's nothing around she can hurt herself with in her sleep. I was sleeping at a friends place once and there was some ironing stuff on the table next to my mattress. Next morning I woke up with the ironing bolt a centimeter away from my head.. must have pulled the cord by accident.

And on a sidenote, I'm familiar with doing weird shit in my sleep. One time I had a dream that I was replacing some lamps or something. Next morning I woke up and I saw a lamp hanging at half a meter height (ceiling is at 3.5Meter). I tried to put the lamp back into the ceiling but couldn't reach it.. the ceiling was too high. Still don't know how I got it out of the ceiling..

    Goodluck on your issues bro

Entrr, the entity thing you talked about is really interesting to me. I remember my best friend from highschool telling me EXACTLY what you had experienced. At the time he only experienced it once, something evil-like standing at the foot of his bed and not being able to move or speak. Now here is where you will think i'm crazy hahah. I'm a follower of Jesus, no denomination really, and I believe that some of these twisted dreams and "entities" are demonic. The bible makes really clear that demonic oppression is a real thing. This is of course because the devil rules the world and is seeking to destroy lives (1 Peter 5:8) If you are a born again christian these things wouldn't happen because then you have the power of God living in you (James 4:7) also you can drive out demons in Jesus name (Mark 16:17-18). I don't apologize for bringing my faith into this thread because I've seen way to many miracles (like healing, physical and mental) for me to doubt my God. If anyone here would like to talk about this more or would like prayer just send me a pm :) You guys are awesome.

Wait, any update on this? This is super interesting, not to make your worries sound like they're irrelevant. I would totally attempt to offer help but really it just sounds like she should get some professional help. Not to say she's crazy it's just likely that her jealousy is something strong in her and it's something she has to come to terms with so it doesn't eat at her like (I'm assuming) it currently is.

Nevertheless, I wish you luck with all of this, its without question hard being on the receiving end of this. My ex-girlfriend had severe depression, so not entirely the same thing but I know what it's like to be afraid of what the god forsaken hell is going on within another person's mind in scenarios like that

Thanks, also - updates [been inactive, sorry]:

Not much has been found out since, her episodes have become less and less frightening, she no longer has outbreaks in her sleep, she does sometimes wake up in the middle of the night though and she starts mumbling. I've since found out she has a milder form of paranoia and we were about 1 month old when I wrote this thread and we had my best friend over at her place and I suppose she wasn't able to sleep comfortably because she didn't feel 10000% safe.

Otherwise the situation seems to be better now, though some questions still remain.

Also, thank you everyone for the response, if there's anything else I find out, I'll post it here! :)

I'm not a doctor of any sort but judging on what you told us she's obviously having the complete opposite of lucid dreaming. I myself have tried lucid dreaming and it's difficult to control. A lucid dream is any dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. She is having the complete opposite not knowing that she is dreaming. Now you said that she thought you all went to sleep when all of you were awake and didn't sleep. This could be "False Awakening". A subset of false awakenings, namely those in which one dreams that one has awoken from sleep that featured dreams, take on aspects of a double dream or a dream within a dream. All the best! I'd definetely recommend taking her to a sleep and dream specialist. I know what you said but I've read that if these nightmares consist that having lucid dreaming can help. Knowing they are awake in the dream can stop things like these. Goodluck!
