le mechanics of sythe

I did a couple google searches and couldn't get le answer to my problem.

Eariler in the year, it was the first time it went below freezing. When i went to drive my car the brakes were a little bit rougher to push down and when i released it gave away a "shhhh" air sound coming from my pedal area.


It snowed last few days and was really cold (like -10) and when i got out to my car this morning it felt like the brakes were locked up. Pressing the brake didn't really work and the same sounds coming from le brakes when releasing the pedal.


Any ideas? I'm letting my car warm up right meow and will probaly be taking it to the mechanics when i can, depending on if warming the car up helps again.

 

Sounds as though you need to bleed your brakes to begin with. Had you had your brake pads changed around when the problem started?

 

Salt on your roads getting into the brake area? Or water from slush on your breaks freeze and they lock, put in drive and see if they break loose. What kind of car do you have?

 

Your best shot is getting your brake pads and fluids checked at a mechanic. Worst case scenario there is an air leak in your brake cylinder and need to get it fixed, but I doubt that if your brakes are actually working and all you hear is a sound coming out of it.

 

Brake pads were changed around 6 months ago, so this shouldnt be an issue

Havent been around much salt, it dosent snow here alot of they usually just plow it, slush may be an issue but it wouldnt account for the first day as it was just the cold.

Well its working like that AFTER I let the car warm up. before i do that the brakes are harder to push on and barely work -if at all-

 

There are honestly tons of possibilities: problem with the brake booster, vacuum seal is weak or faulty, or if it's only happening during the cold it's probably the brake fluid and it needs some bleeding out.

Even if you know what it is, you're gonna need to get it fixed so there's no point in us telling you if you're gonna have to go to the mechanic in the end

 

As ham said your hydrolixs break booster cold be going out. Maybe the cold brought out a weakness. The cold weather here is bringing out the weakness in my power steering pump and it's giving out on my subaru now, when it was hot nothing was wrong. Do you have air brakes or hydrolic

EDIT: Did a litle google, and Dot4 has a freezing point of -40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Not a child and going on 8 years of being a mechanic. Mechanic for the army too know my job extremely well.

 

Check brake fluid levels, get in your car and push the brake down hard, several times, check all anti freeze fluid levels.

 

Bro cooling system has absolutely nothing to remotely do with brakes

 

Try pumping the break all the way down and slowly letting it up. Ran into this problem in a oldschool chevy and this worked.

 

Apparently it has to do with the vacuum seal thanks for you help guise this can be closed
