Has anyone ever done it before? I just started it's a pretty cool concept.

    Geocaching

A few years ago a couple of my friends tried geocaching and wanted me to try but didn't really like the concept. Kinda seemed boring to me tbh.

I used to go occasionally when the rest of my family wanted to go. I liked more urban caches, driving around the city looking for them and spending a day in the town. Not as much hiking through the woods for one.

It can be interesting, I like when they're hidden in unique ways or you're somewhere populated and you run into other people with their GPS out looking for it.

I've found some decent stuff, $20 gift cards that were working and even silver rounds (worth about $20 as well).

I've done it once, not kind of a thing for me, my ex liked it though.

I've found a few in the wooded areas around my county. You're supposed to leave something there with the geocache I think, but most of the ones in my area are empty. I guess people can't resist.

You're not suppose to leave something. You can if you want too. Just so you're aware for the future. Also for everyone else it's getting pretty big and if you like the outdoors you'd honestly probably be a fan of this.

Really? I was always under the impression to leave something. Either way I still think it's pretty cool. I wish the weather was nicer so I could go out and search for them in the winter months.

I was always under the impression you left something if you took something. So a lot of time I would take an old coin with me to drop.

My father used to take me out years ago.

This sounds really interesting. Never heard of it before but now I just looked it up and it seems really cool.

Any idea where I can get started with this?

Pretty well the post above me.

You can simply download/buy an app (be sure it's one with good reviews) and go out and find your first cache!

If you have any questions about it feel free to ask me.
I just went this morning found about 6 of them. Honestly it's pretty free entertainment and you can leave like old pennies if you'd like and things like that. But I don't not to that stage yet where I am that into it. I just got the premium which allows me to do more things it's like 10.00 and it lasts 3 months so it's pretty cheap.

Haha I literally just downloaded the app, went out on a 10 mile bike ride, found a bunch of stuff. It was pretty cool and fulfilling tbh.

Is there a way to filter like good things? Most things were just signing your name and junk. Do people actually get expensive shit  ?

I don't know about filtering but I've seen some caches with nice glass pipes left in them before, as well as some awesome looking crystals and rocks, sometimes coins.

Where do you live? Like in an urban or rural area? I live in South Florida in a highly populated area so I feel like all the good stuff is probably taken. Maybe it has to do with geographic location?

That really isn't the point. Occasionally you'll find something cool but mostly its just junk and the fun of finding the cache.

I live in Eastern Pennsylvania, pretty rural and plenty of great wooded areas and nature preserves to travel around so I got really lucky in that respect.

Yeah you can filter if you want to upgrade to premium it's super cheap 10.00 every 3 months is nothing. Honestly I just have a blast doing them but I also am a fan of the outdoors.

Yeah, the idea isn't really to "get good stuff" it's more to do with the actual finding of the caches.

I agree with that the joy comes with finding the tougher caches that less people have found. It makes you feel really good as nerdy as that sounds.
