Would you buy Sythe?

Hello Sythe Members! This is going to be my first thread plz n0 h8 m9!
Recently I've looking through how much Websites are worth, how much they make, how much they cost to run etc. I've thought about this a few times today, if you had enough money would you buy Sythe if you could?

I mean I'm not saying Sythe (Richard) is doing a bad job or that Sythe is a bad place, just if you had the Money at once stage would you buy Sythe and what would you change personally?

Personally i think i would buy it just to make a killing with the Profits it makes.

I refrained from looking at your answer to write this. I personally wouldn't buy sythe because runescape is on its way out. The website is losing traffic compared to the times in 2009 when runescape was in its prime.

 

Inb4 someone posts an analytical graph to try and refute this post without taking into account that most of the traffic coming to this site is for viral threads concerning bestiality. But hey.. That's none of my business.

If I could afford the estimated worth of the site, I would just create my own. It would be a bad investment to majorly support runescape for years to come.

OT: I wouldn't buy it as I know nothing about upkeeping something like sythe. That's a job better left to people who know what they're doing

 

I would, yes. If that were the purchase price. User base is already established, moderator community is in place, and all the "hard work" is done. I'd definitely make a move toward making it more accessible for members looking for gaming communities and possible officially sponsored clans. I'd sponsor streamers with t-shirts, etc on referral programs and possibly try to create a product. It's an investment, and with every new game involving currency exhange we expand.
If you're worried about user loss, we're not losing the Runescape crowd. The crowd is thinning as the game dies. We're bringing in more and more members with different interests, leading to various new sections and expanding markets. Our middleman section is well established and highly effective, percentage-wise, in preventing users from being ripped off. There are users here who have middlemanned more than a middle class adult has ever seen.

At that price, certainly. It'd be easy enough to re-cap that investment and more. Between advertisements, donations, selling stickies, etc it wouldn't take long. I'm sure there are other ways it could be monetized as well.

Also the added benefit of it being something I'm passionate about.

You could very well monetize out the established community though. I like Blade's idea of supporting streamers and stuff. While I don't think twitch itself is the future, I think streaming is.

 

Yes. Then I'd hire some dedicated coders who'd code shit we need to advance and gain even more traffic.

If I had that money, I'd be investing it in other sources. Wouldn't put that much money into a site that is based mainly off Runescape which won't last for too much longer.

You'd make your money back in a year. If you hired proper coders who were dedicated to making changes/updates - the traffic wouldn't dwindle, it'd rise.

 

Regardless of RS dying out (which, R2P has a thread which has evidence of RS gaining in popularity) - Sythe could easily be bought for $80k, $20k worth of changes made, and resold for ten times that much.

 

You'd have to switch your focus once RS dies out. In retrospect, you couldn't bought something that has promise for awhile.

It wouldn't be a bad buy, don't get me wrong.

 

Once RS dies out? Why not now? The potential is there, the work just doesn't have dedicated coders to do it.
