    Day 1 edits with GIMP.

Just some messing around I did in my spare time today as my beginning to delving into the world of graphic art. I just did some really basic edits here playing with color, exposure, saturation, contrast, hue, etc. I also did my current signature. I'm still a stretch from getting really creative and making my own pieces from scratch, so I began with editing some stock photos. CnC is super helpful, I'd love to hear some tips from you guys.

I'd post the images directly but the dimensions are huge. All comments and suggestions are highly appreciated.

I find it harder to CnC on a piece you did not create but just changed the colors :p

but yea. Ill try.. XD (ill edit later to add more - when I got time)

Your edit number 4, you did wayyyy too much exposure/.... Its just a bunch of effects together that doesnt really ... Flow with the drawing if you know what I mean.
Your edit number 3 is not bad. Its alot better. I like the feeling. Obviously, you have to do more than only these effects but for now, its your best try.

You CANNOT, and i should repeat.. CANNOT write your name on this picture. This drawing isnt yours and even if u did edit, we still recognize the piece so dont do that.

For your next try: try maybe take multiple renders and then add YOUR background, effects, etc and create something! :) it will be way more of a practice than what you did.

    Whoops. My bad.

Like I said this is some stuff I did real quick while I was learning all the editing tools to use, basically just experimentation. I took one graphic design class in middle school so I'm pretty much brand new to this.

imo the images you edited are already as good as they can be. editting the colors will not make them prettier, especially when you compare the end result to the original

The yellow one was also my least favorite, too much contrast and saturation.

    Thanks for the feedback!

The best CnC I can give to a beginner is to read tutorials, watch videos, and learn about color/art theory.

Pretty much what I've been doing today. Didn't think about color theory or anything, though. Awesome feedback, thanks!

Excited to see whats in your future. If you have photoshop jump over to that first.

Gimp to start off is alot more user friendly though.

Thanks for the support. I plan on switching to Photoshop once I feel fully comfortable with GIMP. Everyone says start with Photoshop but getting a free recent version is a pain in the ass without torrenting, and I don't have the cash to buy a full version at this moment.

Argh, matey. The best way to get what you want is to take it. Photoshop is the best to start in. You'll learn the tools quicker and everything will quickly become second nature. Key shortcuts are your bestest friend and they're some good plugins to find for them.

This dude seems to know kind of what he is doing and should get you into art. (He knows how to basically make a signature, his composition and style needs some work. They're novice tier.) My suggestion is to pick up techniques, learn how to utilize your tools using those techniques, then apply those techniques to your own style/work.

This guy knows his stuff though, he does the fake Russian accent like FPSRussia occasionally but he is good at sigs.

Most helpful post I've seen in some time -- much thanks, amigo. I'll be sure to Sub to both of those channels and scour their videos at some point, probably late tonight. Love the emphasis on the signatures, GFX like signatures and avatars for free is something I'd love to be able to for the community once my skills have been honed, style developed, etc.
