What's the price?

 

The actual price of all that stuff is about ~$2k, but I'm getting it for almost free just like my last Alienware.

 

Upgrade that HDD to a 7200 RPM. Getting a 5400 is just suicide.

Not a bad build. I wouldn't pay 2k for it, but if it's nearly free then why not. Clevo and MSI offer MUCH...MUCH better machines for that price range. and whatever you do, don't tell me this is another alienware machine. Therein might lie your problem.

 

It is another Alienware. I know people like to scapegoat Alienware for being an overpriced brand name (I'm only spending a couple hundred of my own money for it), but it really isn't that bad when you get practical upgrades. Certainly not as bad as Apple.

^ As for this, I don't fill up hard drives fast enough for this to be an issue, all my important stuff can go on the SSD, and I'll just clog up the other drive with old videos.

 

Yeah, should have went with a Sager/Clevo and got all sorts of upgrades. You could have got the new 970 or 980m for like $1100 - 1200 and also have the option to upgrade the processor and graphics card down the line for a couple of hundred more. Also their models don't look like something a douchebag would carry around.

I got a 15.6 inch, matte anti-glare ips screen, 120gb SSD + 1tb 7200 rpm, 12GB RAM, i7-4710MQ, same wireless card, 8 cell battery, all for $1229. Apparently if I really want I can take out the cd drive and put in another hard drive. Could have got the next model up with all the same upgrades for a couple hundred more and been able to upgrade the processor and video card. Didn't have the cash at the time.

 

better than an apple, certainly, by miles. still, a useless waste when there are far better products out there that will have your 2000 dollars making you truly grin from ear to ear.

the power in that laptop is over 3 (nearly 4) times the graphical power of aforementioned dell, for not much more coin. and just look at the thing!

 

I'm not really a GFX hungry performance gamer. The machine just has to function for school & Playerswap, and the $2k price tag is a non-issue since it's almost entirely covered and because it would have ultimately cost me more to order and build.

Doesn't matter whether or not you'll "fill it up" - the issue with a 5400 rpm drive is you're creating a MASSIVE bottleneck. The difference in read/write speeds of 5400 vs 7200 are huge.

 

The way he uses the computer it's not a huge hindrance. Plus he can upgrade that when he gets the computer if he feels it's needed. It wasn't offered when it was ordered.
