    I don't know if it's an unreasonable suggestion/too much work to implement but would it be possible to set the number of miniranks that can be displayed?

    For example if it's set to 9 only the first row of miniranks will show up.

    I don't think the problem here is miniranks. I think people in general like them and don't want them completely disabled. It's just a lot of would prefer to see them without excess/ screens being stretched out.
