• Yesterday it rained a lot and the pooper filled with water, then I had to dig a deep hole to bury the poop water. Then I put a roof on the pooper so it wouldn't fill with water.

I wasn't aware 12 year olds paid taxes...


If I didn't pay property tax then men with guns would show up and take my property by force. I have verified this with the council. Not something I have any choice in.

 

List of things recently done, built or installed:

• 100 sq meter pen for chickens and rabbits with 9 sq meter shelter inside
• 100 sq meter pen for pigs with electric
• Indoor shower with on-demand hot water
• Indoor fireplace
• New fridge thermostat
• Indoor lighting and wiring
• Outdoor lighting
• Pooper roof
• Generator house
• Replaced jokey wheel on trailer
• Dug over vege garden
• Lots of mulching of undergrowth and chainsawing
• New animals: Rooster, two rabbits, new chickens (dog ate the old ones)
• Changed my license over to NSW so I can get a gun, but haven't bought a safe yet.

Probably more stuff I can't think of right now. I've been thinking of doing a proper blog but haven't gotten around to it. Also not sure if I want to give up that much privacy.

 

Aware that the people doing business as 'the state' use violence to get their way? When have I ever said anything else.

 

Fuel and food. No where near producing our own yet.

We're going to a friends place in a couple weeks to kill one of their table weight pigs. We'll skin, gut and butcher it there and bring it back in several eskies to put in the freezer. But first we need a working freezer, which means we need another solar battery which is what I'm looking for online today.

Once we have meat in the freezer the next focus will be vege production. I dug over the vege garden yesterday and the soil looks pretty healthy. I let all the chickens go nuts in soil and they ate about a million worms and pooped everywhere (which is good.) The outlet from the shower goes straight into the garden so the moisture level is really good now.

Will dig it over again today if it doesn't rain too much and then we'll start incubating some seeds for spring growing season.

After vege garden is sorted I have to repair our two acre polywire paddock and we're going to get some jersey cows as house cows. From there we will make our own milk and butter and cheese and yogurt (although we already make the last two ourselves with store-bought milk). We have friends doing this and it's very successful.

Once we make enough food to support ourselves we'll probably cut back shopping to once a month rather than once a week. The last step will be a gasifier which is a device for making wood into a gas fuel that can be fed into a generator. We use generators for things like powertools and if we have several overcast days in a row. Producers gas (which comes from a gasifier) can also be catalyzed into gasoline with the Fischer–Tropsch method -- something I will look into at that time.

Also we're hopefully building a proper house in the next two years pending council approval. Again if you do it without their permission they will come knock it down. At the moment we are technically camping, albeit comfortably.
