Over 200m? It's $1.1B not "over 200m".

And I think Amazon would be better than Google, Google has a monopoly on too many markets and it's great that at least they won't have a monopoly on streaming as well. Also with Amazon, twitch's customer support will be awesome and lag/etc should be cut drastically considering AWS is part of Amazon.

 

Twitch doesn't choose who they want to sell to lol. The company has to make an offer to them, and i'm guessing that Amazon offered the highest sum of money so that's why they sold to them.

I'm assuming it was a takeover, where Amazon bought shares in twitch, so no they wouldn't have chosen who it was sold to.

 

It's a good investment..

 

Mfw. It's probably going to turn out to be a very good buy. There are tens of millions of twitch viewers that Amazon gets access to, millions of hours of ad revenues, etc. Actually surprised it didn't cost them more.

Doubt it unless you found this info somewhere, in which case I'm surprised.

Amazon will definitely be more user friendly than Google. I think that Google would be able to improve Twitch a lot more than Amazon, but Google would monetize it far more. Amazon is the king of customer service, I think that Amazon will do a better job directing Twitch overall.

Amazon will make money on it for sure. It was totally worth it. Plus like Xier0 said, great customer service.

 

Google never bid, were never in the market to purchase Twitch.tv, it was all a rumour.

In regards to will it be profitable? God damn yes it will. Look up twitch's viewer rating and traffic statistics. The amount of money generated from Dota2 and LoL streaming is unparalleled at current. When championship games are on for each, there are minimum 500K+ viewers; that's just the start of it. Far more avenues that generate profit.

Twitch, really is an incredible thing and I think if they keep playing their cards right, it's going to turn into something more amazing than it already is.

Twitch, is giving people who enjoy playing videogames or anything, and turn it into a career.

It's going to be awesome to see how they work together.

A lot of amazons sales are media related, and aimed at pretty much the entirety of Twitch's user-base. As far as investments go, it was a pretty good one.

But what's really on my mind was Twitch's predecessor, something dot.tv ? argh, it'll come to me.. They closed down as Twitch was getting popular, so the users moved to Twitch.. I can only imagine that the developer is ready for a public immolation.
