Are Taxes Justified?

Taxes are fair and unfair.

The majority of shit that I pay taxes for I don't use at all and probably never will, but MAY possibly use at some point in my life.

I live in Ontario, and 13 percent sales tax on EVERYTHING is really starting to piss me off.

 

Just the notion of taxes being unfair/unjust just turns the thread into a pro-anarchy thread. The subject is rigged. You can't have government without taxation, unless you actually expect the government to act as a corporation and own capital/run businesses. If that's the case, then you're asking for trouble. Government monopolies in a capitalist country would eventually aim to remove as much freedom as possible from the population in an effort to obtain more capital. It's also an extremely unsustainable practice. Whichever country would adopt it would deplete its resources in a matter of years. Oh why don't they just import shit? Yeah it'd work for a while with all the money they've gathered from their skewed economy, but eventually you're still living unsustainably. As it is, if every person on Earth lived as the average American lives, we would require 6 Earths.

What's the alternative?

 

You're living in a safe environment, rather than being in a chaotic place like Iraq. It's worth the price

 

Are taxes justified? It depends. Do I want social program or do I not want social programs?
