Horrible, horrible days for a lot of family members around the world.
Flight MH17, from Schiphol, the Netherlands, was supposed to be going to Malaysia, to bring home family members, take people on vacation, reunite them..
According to Malaysia Airlines, the plane departed from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport at 10:15 GMT (12:15 local time) on 17 July and was due to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 22:10 GMT (06:10 local time).
The airline lost contact four hours later at 14:15 GMT - 50km from the Russia-Ukraine border.
Footage later emerged of the crash site in territory controlled by pro-Russian separatists, and witnesses spoke of dozens of bodies on the ground.
Our thoughts go out to the friends and family members of the victims of flight MH17, and the flights in Niger and Taiwan.​

Legacy Mode
Jagex's polarizing solution to combat in Runescape 3
Earlier this month, Jagex introduced Legacy Mode - a toggle activated combat mode in which players are able to play a re-skinned version of Runescape based predominantly on the interface of Pre-Eoc + Pre-NIS Runescape, as well as being offered combat being based loosely on Pre-Eoc mechanics.

Legacy modes implementation was never in doubt, as the initial poll back in January yielded an 81 percent "Yes" vote. Earlier this month, a poll was conducted asking whether or not Legacy mode was "ready for implementation". A resounding 80 percent of voters supported its implementation.

A few weeks later, amid an increasingly toxic and polarizing set of ideals being asserted on the Runescape Official Forums, Legacy mode was launched. Reviews on Legacy have been largely mixed, and it is difficult to truly tell what the community thinks of it. For some, the inception of Revolution mode was enough to sate their Pre-Eoc styled combat itch. For others, Legacy was a better alternative. However, as is usually the case with any update in any game, some complained about Legacy on numerous platforms (in-game, RS Reddit, RSOF, even Sythe!)

Here are some of the key facts about Legacy Mode:
*It offers a re-skinned interface a la Pre-Eoc+Pre NIS
*It eliminates all abilities + replicates as much of the Pre-Eoc mechanics as possible
*It is a part of the live game, it is not a separate server like Old School Runescape or Runescape Classic.
*Many of the old animations were re-introduced- such as the idle whip animation.
*The minimap icons were reverted back to their previous models.
*The prayer icons were changed to reflect the older models.
*138 Combat formula was re-introduced (Across all of Runescape, not just Legacy)

Some of the main complaints about Legacy Mode:
*Nerfed DPS - A further nerf was done after implementation. This led to a lot of backlash as Legacy already yielded lower XP rates than Revolution + Full Manual EoC combat selections. While it was competitive pre-nerf to Revolution, post-nerf it became significantly weaker in regards to XP rates.
*Legacy still runs on 50 percent protection prayers- This was probably the biggest gripe of the Runescape community. Many people wanted 100 percent protection prayers to return to Legacy because there weren't abilities such as Rejuvenate to utilize. Jagex listened to these suggestions but ultimately ruled on 50 percent protection to stay.
*'Tierscape' remains- Many anti-EoC players hate what they call "Tierscape". Gone are the days where a character with 99 strength can obliterate someone with a simple dragon dagger. Although Runescape has always been tiered, in many respects, EoC definitely changed the game on how gear works and how tiered items are superior the higher the level they require. This upset many players because they believe that PvP is unoriginal and customization is severely limited whilst Pking. Many blame "Tierscape" for the death of many minigames and the PvP community, sometimes even more than they blame the inception of abilities + stuns.

Jagex trying to increase dwindling player-base
The inception of Legacy mode, along with F2P trialed Old School Runescape, has seen slight success in terms of bringing players back to Runescape. While I did not look up statistics specifically, 78k players online today (July 28th) was the most I had seen in quite a while. It will be interesting to see if this is just your normal "Summer Surge" in activity, or whether or not Jagex can figure out more ways to get players back --- whether they are old players that quit or whether it is bringing in brand new players.

New Boss!
Last in our batch of Runescape news for this month, we have the introduction of Araxxor, the horribly disgusting looking combat level 2500 (yes 2500) spider! Araxxor is quite a complex boss, as there are four phases that the player must deal with (with the community saying that the fourth is incredibly difficult and location based clicking is very important). Many players are complaining of the overly difficult challenge of the boss as well as the financially nonsensical return that it yields (you must pay 200k for an instanced fight, as well as 150-200k minimum on supplies...and the drop table offers only marginal profit chances). Although, one must consider that if they can get their hands on the new T-90 items, especially early, they could be getting hundreds of millions of coins.
