Yes the point is,

Because Leanbean cannot PROVE that his Skype was hacked, he should still remain BANNED.

Why?

Because he could have hacked his own Skype/asked a friend to do it. You name it.

 

Would a more recent PM have changed anything? Lean didn't get hacked a month ago, he got hacked the moment before the trade went down. That is EXTREMELY convenient. Oh, honest didn't ask for PM? Let me just say I got hacked...

EDIT: I think the wrong question is being asked. If honest had asked for a PM would the trade have went smoothly? Was it because he didn't ask for a PM that Lean found himself in a position of power? Why had he been hacked at that precise moment? Who knew of these high price transactions going down at that exact moment? This guy gets scammed $2000+ and it's not a big enough deal simply because he's a mod? Meh... anyways, I'm sure this is already being discussed by admins/mods. If it isn't, then it's their site to lose and it's their members that will get scammed.

A mod should know better. If this was a 'simple' mistake, he should still be responsible for this mistake and the bigger things that it caused.

 

Haven't been reading into this whole shabang too much, but did anyone state how the info to this email was acquired by the said hacker?

 

People assume someone used a Recovery request from Skype Live Chat mixed with some Social Engineering

 

He didn't ask for a PM when I redeemed $3,500 for him at one time either and the trade went just fine.


On another note, the fact that I don't have access to the email address registered to the account has nothing to do with the account being hacked so for people to try and use that as an excuse on how I could have hacked myself is just ridiculous. Let me put it this way, if I did plan my own hacking and I knew what to do to cover my tracks like some people may think would I not have just recovered my own skype and avoid the whole not having an email from skype? Keep in mind that the latest IP address of my skype account shows that there was access to my account from someone else.

If you're going to accuse me of doing something as ridiculous as this at least look at all the facts, don't just throw blind accusations around especially when I have never done anything even the slightest bit sketchy during my time on sythe.

EDIT: Reason why I even got involved is because I feel really bad for honest. He lost $2000+ and regardless of whose fault it is, that still really sucks.

 

The cause of this happening (as stated many times before) was the failure to ask for a PM (which is basic trading rules, I do this for even bonds.)

How does an Ip match prove anything? If someone were trying to cover their tracks, they would use a VPN, use a skype which can't be recovered, and use an email to a skype that can't be recovered.

 

Here's the thing which a lot of you are overlooking:
This was a bloody large chunk of change and he didn't get a pm confirming he was talking to lean at the time.

Yes I agree that lean is responsible as it is his Skype and rules clearly state that he should be responsible but this case should come under contributory negligence. Although Lean owes the duty of care for the lost goods, it should be a reduced amount.

 

No one is overlooking that fact. Everyone says said 1000+ times that he should have PMed, the thing is, Lean and the staff feel that Leanbean owes nothing. That is where the issue comes in, whether or not he was hacked, he should still owe at least half of what was scammed. It sucks, but its only fair.

 

No doubt lean owes an amount but it shouldn't be the $2000, it should be a reduced amount due to contributory negligence

Iago didn't request pm before the transactions,skypes got hacked daily.
The best way to stay safe is,request pm before any transaction,record everything.
I have seen the report many times and the pm is 1 month old.
Skype's can be hacked even in middle of trade,but when u have a pm verification before the trade,that will safe your ass.
I am really sorry for that huge loss Iago,but its your fault.
No matter did lean stole it or some hacker,you should cover your ass with pm verification before the trade.

Yes peoples can be trusted,yes we have many legit persons here,and yes,this is not the first time when skype got hacked and peoples got scammed.
When i was new here,i trusted h1j2 with more than 25,000$ for less than 2 weeks,and then with another 40,000$ without problem.
When you like to deal with large amounts,you should first know less or more the guy in the other side (you can use any tactic to check his reaction or way of thinking,etc.) and then decide.

You and the cavalcade of idiots who repeat what you say have yet to prove Lean's negligence of not having access to the original email was a contributing factor in the scam.

 

If he was not able to lock his own skype, the hacker would still be on the loose. Not only that, but if he knew his own email he would've been able to recover his skype in time as the trade between the hacker and honest lasted for an hour. He was also online at that time. You really shouldn't be calling anyone an idiot.

- Failure of securing his own property
- Failing to acknowledge that he is part of the outcome
- Failing to come up with an ideal compromise for the situation to make both parties satisfied

We all know if leanbean wasn't staff, he would've been held responsible for trading on a skype that is not secured in the slightest. The story itself sounds fishy alone.

What example are we trying to set? As long as you've been hacked and no pm was received before the trade, you should be cleared of any responsibility owned by yourself? Hmm sounds like a win/win situation for both the hacker and the hacked victim. There is potential for hackers to make deals with other members to make some serious profit in the future.

What is more scary?

The rules of this site? Or the staff members who are able to twist the rules to their liking for any situation? Want to avoid this? Make sure rules are understandable for any situation, as it stands it applies for this current dispute as it follows exactly what it states. This is a market oriented site, try to make rules precise, it's not hard. We aren't dealing with imaginary money here.
