Should luring be against the rules?

As long as it's considered to be an unbannable offense I shall proceed with doing it.

So by your logic, if mugging a person in an alley were legal, you'd do it? You would beat up a person to steal their cash?

I think the discussion has reached it's peak and now everything is just a repeat of what has been said.

    It should be bannable.

To deceive someone, regardless of the ignorance of the lured, is something that should be frowned upon by this community. IF a sythe user INTENTIONALLY lures another member of this community (or off-site), then it takes the randomness out of the equation, which means that there's a very STRONG chance that the "lurer" is doing it out of malice, or spite, or anger etc.

    http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/Luring
This shows you that they disabled special attacks BECAUSE of luring and that they do label it as SCAMMING themselves, so I verily agree that we as a community should label as such also.

    I vote YES.

Yet again, I reiterate that luring a SYTHE member (or luring off-site intentionally) for a gain or profit, it should be a bannable offence. Period.

And again, how would you prove they intentionally lured a sythe user?

I had a thought though, we shouldn't be trying to vote on what's bannable with luring. We should instead be voting on a process to fix the situation.

As of now, the rules say you can't intentionally lure a sythe member. Change the rule to say "You can't lure a sythe member", removing the word "intentionally". Then the victim needs only prove that they were lured by a sythe user, and then the perp would be obligated to pay them back. Or get banned until they do.

That way, it's not some ridiculous scamming perm ban. It's just a measure to protect sythe users without dictating how other users must play runescape, especially when their actions are well within legal means and legitimate game mechanics.

Pretty much. I was about to write a long-winded response, but that would just reiterate what has been said before to statements that have also been said before. The staff is currently partaking in discussions on luring, so a final decision should be coming soon, and at this point, I'll have to respect their decision. While I am still against luring in general, I can understand pro-luring arguments, so I think Phi's suggestion is worth looking at depending on the outcome of this matter.

Wait I like the idea of just any Sythe user in general, forget about knowingly. I'll bring it up in the thread in lower level

Ok i agree! Intentional or not. If it is done to a sythe user by another user, it should be punishable! or even off site to another user of the same community.

HuGE support for what was said above!

Not so much a punishment, but incentive to pay back the sythe victim. The ban should be lifted as soon as the victim's things are returned

What if no items are lost and that user has still been punished?

Like I said, there should be no pre-established punishment. Only a ban until the wealth is paid back. If no wealth was lost, there'd be no need for a ban.

I was issued a TWC for supposedly trying to lure/anti-lure a Sythe member yet there were NO proof of us even coming across each other on 07 whatsoever.

Nothing I can do about that. This thread's intention is to change how they're handled from this point on. Maybe if/when they revise how they deal with luring, you can ask for them to fix it for you

If it was unintentional, but if it was intentions to target via sythe then a perm ban should be applied as of normal. Using sythe to actively lure or anti-lure someone undermines the trust we have established as being members of the community.

Should luring be against the rules?

No. Luring is legal and part of game mechanics. There should be no lasting punishment, plus it'd be impossible to tell whether it was intentional or not. All of this has already been said.

Also, if someone has the absolute intention of luring a sythe user and taking their money, then they won't have the intention to give back the wealth after they're banned. And so they'll stay banned. So it'll be, in essence a permanent ban

It's already been proven that luring isn't legal or intended as a game mechanic several times.
