Buying and Selling - Post Count - Suggestion

I looked and didn't find anything on the topic, so nonetheless.

I thought that there should be some way to curb post count increase from people who buy/sell who get PC simply for saying "Bump", or something of that nature. It floods people post count, and I have always felt that it shouldn't count towards PC. I don't know if anyone else supports this, and it is open for discussion, but this is just my two cents. Maybe make it where you need to have more than 6-7 characters in a post to count towards a legitimate "post".

 

Why? This is a market website, not a discussions-only website.

 

A lot of people would end up losing post count and the aftermath won't be fun.

 

No i agree completely with that! Dont get me wrong Cas, lol. I was talking about specifically posts that only say "bump" The thread itself or replies should count.

Mostly i say this because over the years ive been here, i have noticed new users (even though they SHOULDN'T) look at PC as some form of credibility, that is all i am saying.


Also Ghast I am not talking about changing all past posts, i meant as a thing to do from now on, etc.

How do you see this being automated?
If the system would punish people for posting a certain word, they would start using other words.
The only logical way to automate this would be to disable all postcount for market sections, which is probably never going to happen.

Too complicated, and no practical use imo.
Post should NEVER be used as a form of trust, only vouches should have that impact.

 

This would ruin the post count for some people, they have a eight hour limit for a reason. Sorry, no support.

 

But you know very well that post count does infact have an impact on trust even if it's not implied too.

@OP, unless you can come up with a more practical way to subdue the problem, I'm gonna hold my support.

 

I agree with you that post count does impact trust, although if a user has enough dedication to stay long enough to increase their post count then they automatically gain some credibility and trust. Everyone has to start out somewhere.

but obviously thats not allowed for some reason. That addon can limit the time frame that you can bump (8 hours as it is now) and would not affect the PC of said user. Can be set by usergroup etc.



Also guys, we ALL KNOW that new guys always look at PC, even if there is 1000 stickies saying that it shouldnt be used as a means of credibility. So say you got a user selling 6 different things in 3 different markets. thats 6 PC every 8 hours. so 18 "bumps" in a day. or 128 POSTS in 1 week.

 

Perfect example of someone who abused bumping on threads.

He was able to average 20 posts a day with ease just by bumping threads that held no interests to others. (Particularly in the market)

The only way to solve this problem is to add a bump button and enforce users to use it, but that's on the dns list.

 

We bump our threads to get on the top based on the 8hour rule.
Since peoples contact you over skype/msn and not posting everytime on thread,you may find threads with many "bumps" and not anyone else posted on it.
Also me as seller,i always request the vouches to be posted on my "vouch thread" but not as reply to the current thread.
So you suggest peoples to not be allowed to bump their threads or the bumps not count as posts? Then where the posts must be counted? At spam section ?
No support from me,your suggestion make no sense at all and obviously you are not familiar with the market.

 

They just shouldn't be counted. Bumping should ALWAYS be allowed. Why should a "bump posts" even count? You are missing the point I think. There's nothing wrong with your thread being at the top every 8 hours, but why should your "bump" go towards your PC. There are many other vbulletin forums out there that use a bump system that doesn't hyper-inflate their post count.

 

No support. Even if its just a bump.. 1 per 8h... It demonstrates your activity on the website. Posts count are there to tell the others about your activity. Market is the main activity on the site so it should be counted.

 

The thread make no sense... What you have against the post count ?
Since we don't have bump system,they will be counted always.
If you suggest a bump system,that is something different.

 

I don't see ANYTHING wrong with implementing a button on your thread where you "bump" it, and can do so every 8 hours. what I suggested IS a bump system. It effectively does what you guys want for your market threads, but at the same time wouldn't affect your PC.


As said earlier, there has always been a problem where trust has gone into PC and backfired from new users.

 

I'm pretty sure a "bump button" wasn't implemented because it significantly reduces the daily posts the site receives. The higher the numbers, the better.
