Sythe Redesign and Organization

No support, i dislike changes especially because you have to get used to them all the time.

it doesnt look all that bad. I support if it could be tweeked a little bit more.

 

I think removing sections from the front page will tank activity. Runescape is super active. Condensing it down won't help but annoy users and make them click more (since a lot of people won't spend the time to click the tiny little subsection links).

 

Way too small. I think the site has gone through enough changes.

 

I did a pretty decent response to this, but I've lost it in my swimming pool of tabs.

Basically:

• Accounts: They're organized pretty badly, the sub-sections that are. We could have the accounts be in the main category when they click it and have a less popular subcategory for lower leveled accounts which are less desired. Instead of the whole shitload of categories for every level range.
• Other sub-categories that would require a click to view are pretty much inactive compared to the rest. This includes stuff like Fire capes. I mean come on, if someone needs a fire cape the one or few times they do they won't care to click once more, especially since it's more accessible, right on the front page, bam, there, click, click.
• For RS Discussions: General has about 46 views right now, 43 of which are on the main category that would be clickable from site.
• 07 Discussion: Only 1 person viewing the category that would require 2 clicks
• Cheating: 6 viewing. Guides: 4 viewing. All negligible compared to the main category.

So that just leaves, if anything, the accounts as an issue. And of course all of this can still be there on the front page clickable. It'd just be neater if it wasn't.

 

I think that a change in this direction would look good.

In all fairness the entire site needs redesigning, re-organising and optimising.

 

I think we need to wait for VB4 before we consider any drastic changes.

 

That ship sailed a while ago. vB5 is out already. And from what I've heard it's gone to shit compared to IPB, as apparent by the usage differences. What I find funny is that vBulletin's official modification forum is still using 3.6.

All that will really be different for the users:

• Useless sidebar with latest topics, etc, that Sythe will probably disable
• A bunch of errors and shit from the migration
• User bar on the left, which I hate and think is terrible
• Likes on posts, blogs, login with Facebook, a bunch of useless social media shit
• Maybe a better search system and PM system or making topic, not really.
• Probably harder to do a theme for so we'll have to use the shitty default or a pre-made one for a while.
• Probably slower load times. Probably more server usage. Probably more abuse/bugs to find.

Only thing I can really think of is the cool AJAX shit that makes it smooth, which again, will probably get disabled for Sythe due to performance issues. Oh and themes that resize for mobile, etc, which I'm sure we can do with this version of vB.

 

I'll support this. Sythe could introduce new changes one by one or slowly so that everybody can get used to it. This way new changes won't cause current members to leave.

 

No one is going to leave over a smaller front page.

 

I can see less activity come from it.

Don't see the reason for compressing the site even more. The eye is bigger than the mind.

Page two is a very sexy page.

I think it does make it easier to navigate and doesn't look to shabby. The color does look off like some people mentioned but you did say this was a mockup so all good.

 

Why not just remove the inactive sub forums then?
