I don't see how this is any different than the various times we've had IRC servers... What incentive did people have then?

 

Having the chat in another window rather than another tab is so incredibly awkward. That's one of the biggest deterrents for me.

 

I find that useful, personally. It's likely that the chat tab might get included in an indiscriminate "close all tabs" operation otherwise.

 

Fair enough, I think the vast majority of people prefer the tabbed variant, though.
