What makes someone on sythe trusted

Does the amount of time they have been here (for example 2004) even though they have no donator status etc make them trusted.

I have been approached by someone who says they have been here since 08, and has done plenty of sales.

Is this an acceptable argument to claim trust?

 

Join date/post count do not matter. The only thing to make someone trusted is the amount of vouches they have.

 

Doesn't belong in this section, but trust is entirely subjective. To some it's how long you've been here, to some it's activity around the site, to some it's your number of vouches, etc.

Typically, a large number of high quality vouches combined with a good reputation lead to a trusted user, but it's ultimately up to you who you trust.

 

Pretty much to know who is trusted, whoever is active around, good reputation, donation.. Basically it's up to you, think before going first would it be worth it on his end, if he scammed me?

 

What makes them trusted is if you trust them or not. There are no number of vouches, post count, donation, or how long they've been here that can denote trust. It is subjective.

I would trust pretty much anyone with 2 vouches with a penny, but I wouldn't trust anyone on this forum, not even the administration, with anything more than I'm comfortable with.

 

Everyone has their own definition of "trusted" but some benchmarks when it comes to the general idea are many vouches, community involved, staff member, and active user. However everyone has their own ways of determining these things.

 

If they say they were here since 08, and it does not show that on their profile, you can assume they are ban evading. Donating does not make you trusted either, it's the quality of the vouches that matters.

Registration date is in 08, but mostly all of their vouches/transactions began in 2014. What is your thoughts? Thanks!

Good question! If someone is using the fact they joined in 08 to convince you to trust them it doesn't sound to good. If someone is trusted you shouldn't need convincing with such trivial things. You could've joined yesterday and be the most honest person in the world or you could be someone with no morals who hasn't had a reason to steal for 5 years.. see where I'm coming from?

If you're talking about an account then unless the user is HUGELY reputable and is the original owner then don't bother IMO.

Otherwise.. look at the vouches; the number of vouches, amount traded and order of trade are the aspects to look at, from least important to most important. Number of vouches is the first thing to look at.. if there are only a few then the person is a new trader and a safe rule of thumb is to use a middleman for the trade. If the user has a fair amount to large amount of vouches then you should look through these for the trade amounts; bearing in mind that 50 vouches at 10$ each are lower quality than 10 vouches for over 100$ each. Lastly, the order of trade is most significant. It's not uncommon for people to look trusted by garnering vouches just by buying something and going first; meaning the other party isn't putting any trust in them. So if they've been going second (meaning the other trader trusted them before payment), they're of a substantial amount and there are a lot of them: then I'd be confident in trusting said person.

I would say that join date can be a means of a bridge of security. Would you trust someone selling runescape gold who's been around since 08 or someone who joined just the other day?

However, join date is by no means a way of saying you're trusted. Vouches are really the only way. Donation status can help as well to show others that you aren't going to scam, etc.

 

Having [#Trusted&Legit] in the title makes them 100% trustworthy.

Jokes aside look for a combination of join date, donation rank and vouches I'd say.

In short, if they're actually trusted, you shouldn't have to ask after looking at their vouches and general appearance. The only time I'd ever mention my vouches or donations is in the title of a thread... and that's mainly because newcomers don't know what to look for. Anyone claiming that join date is a reliable measure of trust is most likely not trustworthy; were they a mod in 2005 who contributed greatly to the site, or did they create an account in 2005 and forget about it for 8 years?

 

If your more community involved, or if you browse outside the market then general activity + community activity can be big factors.
