What has Runescape taught you?

Hey I'm sure most of us played Runescape growing up, personally I've been playing since I was 8 years old. Has Runescape taught you anything that could be related directly to your education?

Runescape actually taught me a few things:

1. The general plot of Romeo and Juliet cutting out all the bullshit in the book is actually fairly similar to the quest in Runescape.

2. Actually taught me some terms I wouldn't have known as a child without Runescape regarding the middle ages. Examples: Anvil, fletching, merchants (applicable to grade 5 middle-age history)

Has Runescape taught you anything?

 

It taught me how the market works. It was very useful for my economics class.

 

Interesting that it has actually assisted you in upper level learning. It is not exactly applicable to the Science field for me but has made my typing very quick and making any sort of typed report much faster.

 

Don't fucking trust anyone

 

Random general knowledge
How stocks work thanks to merching (when I was younger)
That people aren't to be trusted readily
That you can make good friends through the internet
And that you just have to accept other people have conflicting opinions thanks to kids on rs

 

It's taught me economics in a way. Buy low sell higher to make profit.

Also, make sure to associate with trusted users only.

 

In 3rd grade a question asked, what is a hatchet? I thought of runescape and it helped me on that lol. Was 76 Wc that time in 3rd grade, Memories <3

 

Typing, knowledge in internet 'Street Smarts', how to hustle, insight into how markets work. I remember a question on one of my tests in world history back in middle school was what two elements made up bronze, which I knew from hitting rocks in Rimmington.

 

The grand exchange is an awful lot like the stock exchange here in the United States. I'm an economics major so I guess I've been indirectly learning about money since I started playing. Also learned a lot of people skills, being nice gets you very far merchanting in Runescape, but you also have to be firm with your prices - Just as you would in the real world.

Runescape taught me that watermelons grow on the ground and how to use a compass

 

Thanks to RS I've managed to get the PET/FCE/CAE and probably will get the CPE cause of the rich vocabulary in it.

It also taught me a little bit about the stock market since in 2010/2011 I was very involved in ge flipping and merch clans so I learned a few things.

Like others have said, it taught me a lot of terms, I learned to type faster, and it introduced me to gaming in general.

So much.

I was able to figure out/teach myself a lot of probability/statistics through RuneScape thanks to studying drops, gambling, and returns. Up to about an intro-mid university level. Also, typing skills, programming skills, lots of economic intuition and experience that you don't get in a university. How to negotiate/haggle, game theory, leadership skills, budgeting and the importance of investing. How to take basic mathematical, economic, statistical, etc. tools and use them to build models to help optimize profits. How to handle extremely large losses and gains. Patience. Some historical knowledge and lots of vocabulary. Exploring how to minimize the probability of getting banned for RWT helped me learn a lot about virtualization and security in general. I also learned to be very careful when it comes to trusting people.

RuneScape has helped me with internships, interviews, and enrollment in some pretty nice programs. I have it on my resume, honest.

And these dumb games is a waste of time if you're playing it unless you're making money with your own gold website or merchandise.

 

I mean, all the normal things people learn such as basic economics, not to trust people with large sums of money, the effects of gambling

I'll always remember a long ass time ago though the word "gilded" came up in a reading in school and no one had any clue what it meant besides me. I felt accomplished.
