Sythe Chat!

There's the SF dice forum and DL dice thread for that. We don't need a gambling chat.

 

I support gambling chat just because I can.

In all seriousness though, it would promote activity because dicers wouldn't have a delay on their bet outcomes, unlike the forums. We could just make a new special channel and subchannels or what not.

Some other things I saw:

+1 for the buggy scrolling if there is active chat.

+1 for a ping/highlight if your name is mentioned.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but say, theoretically, the dicing chat is implemented, would it be possible for someone to be in the dicing channel as well as the lobby? If not, that would be a great route to go about that, I believe.

 

I love all of the suggestions, but I feel "Have the chat on the Sythe page. (Facebook chat kind of deal) - Possibly downloadable client instead (Community input desired)" is the most important one of the suggestions. I'm not too sure how useful a downloadable client would be, but facebook style would be really helpful in making it a platform that people could use to organize and structure trades. If you visit playerswap.com, they currently have that set up, and if we could do something like that, it'd be nice. Some people may not like the way it looks though, so if we could set it as an option that can be turned off and on, that'd be great.

 

I think you're on to something! If people opted to conduct trades in private rooms via SytheChat where the chat logs were recorded:
- It would be soooo much easier to provide proof for scam reports if the case arose.
- It would provide a way to validate vouches as well as promote activity all around.
The vision I have is something like the Bitcoin Blockchain where all trades are kept on a public ledger but the transaction addresses are encrypted.

Here's a way this could be done:

1. The trade chat room, which could consist of enough slots for two or three people (two for a simple trade, three if there is a middleman, and more as needed), would be have a password to enter that is set by someone in the trade.
2. Upon entering the room, a popup shows that by chatting here, they agree to have their chat logs saved to an encrypted file for future use if the need arises.
3. The trade would conduct normally like one would through Skype, or some other third-party application, except there would be no possible way for someone to mimic another person because SytheChat is NOT anonymous.
4. Once the trade is complete, all parties present may have a transcript of the chat emailed to them with some form of unique identifier code that shows that they, in fact, are the real recipient of the transcript.
5. The chat room is closed and all logs are saved for any future need(s) after all parties present are content with their trade.

Some remarks:

- If a profile link could be attached to a username in the chat, there would be no doubt that someone could mimic another user through Sythechat unless they blindly chose to not heed warnings and common sense.
- Realizing that this would take a decent amount of time in the case that it was voted to be implemented, there would probably need to be much discussion about the best practices to use SytheChatTrader (That's what I've decided to name my idea).

 

Won't see adoption until it's built-in to the page, like zopim/facebook chat is.

It's not even that hard to do, just restyling and then adding the JS to the header, dunno why it's not done already, I think that should be the focus for now.

Did not add dicing, but if there's a considerable amount of people wanting it, I'm sure it could be made. Personally, I'd rather keep it out though.

 

Can you make a portion of the OP for theoretical suggestions? (i.e. dicing, my trader chat suggestion, etc.)
It would be nice to have a running list of everything that has been suggested that seems remotely viable and not redacted because of the OP's opinion on the suggestion.

 

Chat logs are recorded.
Other chat rooms/lobbies can be made by anyone, and Richard PM'd Matthew to create a chatroom list.

 

So, in essence, the tools to make this is all there, but to make it happen people would just have to just opt to use SytheChat.

I think dicing should still be in the OP, though. Just for the tl'dr types that won't go through all the replies in this thread.

I don't see why you need to be able to place more than one bet every 30 seconds as you can do at present in the dicing subforum. If you want to roll dice just for lols there are other tools you can use instead. Totally unnecessary imo.

Forgot about that, and think conference bug was brought up, but if someone stays in the chat, the chat will stay.

 

- Facebook style chat (not DL client as who wants to download a client to speak to fags on sythe?)
- Dicing as people will feel more comfortable speaking via IM while betting IRL
- Fix what ever bugs need to be done regarding conference etc etc.


Personally I think the FB chat is the best idea.

How is this any better than speaking on Skype? Again, firmly against adding dicing. We're not a gambling site.
