Yugioh players?

I see an awful lot of buying and selling of yugioh cards in the RL sales section.

Just wondering if we've got any YGO players amongst us? Competitive players that is.

8 Top 8 Placements

All with over 80 people at each, I've not been to tournaments for a few months now though sadly due to cash constraints.

Playing Chain Beat at the minute, just wondering who's playing and if you guys use DN?

 

MTG > Yugioh. I went back and played Yugioh for a tourney on sythe a while back and it just doesn't feel like it has the richness while maintaining the simplicity of MTG. MTG is amazing because it is a simple rule set that you can use to make things beautifully complex. I feel yugioh started off like that but now they're all gimmick based shit trying to get th younger crowd in on it.

 

MTG is just sooooooooo slow.

In YGO if you mess up, you get punished. HARD.

You missplay in MTG and the game just lasts an extra turn haha.

 

Growing up I played YGO and MTG recreationally, although I much preferred the earlier games of YGO I played. I remember we had a YGO tourney a while back and it just wasn't what I remembered playing as a kid.

 

You've apparently not watched any legacy tournaments. You can build insane combinations that can take out an opponent in 3 to 4 turns. I mean it was so bad in the early to mid 2000's that they had to redesign some mechanics to make the game last more than 4 turns.

 

Yu-Gi-Oh! used to be pretty awesome. I would play it competitively locally. Nowadays though cards and decks are just so broken (as in OP). Though you will find me on Xbox 360 playing Yu-Gi-Oh! MD which just came out competitively online. But as far as in person, no, not anymore.

 

I don't play it competitively, but I do play on dueling network for fun. These past formats have been so bad that it isn't worth me buying the cards to actually play at locals and so on.

I used to play with TGs when they first came out. Cheapest deck out there. Quit when they nerfed them into the ground.

 

I feel Yu-Gi-Oh got stupid the further it got on...

I loved the original game and when it developed slightly further when they had like Umi and Tornado Wall (pretty earlier back into those days) but now, they have like the most stupidly broken shit. I don't even understand half the things that go on anymore, I tried playing again 3-4 years ago and all of a sudden there's like some XYZ burn fusion summon shit Dark World shit and people burned through like half their deck and swarmed the field before I even had a turn. Shit makes no sense anymore.

 

This is one of the most accurate posts I have ever seen on Sythe.org or any other forum. Could not agree more. My exact frustrations are echoed within this post. I recently had a burn deck on Yu-Gi-Oh! MD (Xbox 360 game) that was broken to bits. Had a monster card / trap combo that made all life point gains for the opponent life point losses. Had 3 trap cards that increased lifepoints by 3k (thus with the trap -3k). It was so OP. I won games online in 2-3 turns sometimes. Just stupid. I'm sure there are ways to counteract it..but why bother?

Also, the funniest part? That 3k card is common.

I liked the days when Exodia or Destiny Board was the most powerful. It still took strategy to at least get Exodia into your hand. And it was at least stoppable. This XYZ shit is so stupid.

 

Not exactly a nerf. They limit cards in certain formats depending on the impact it has on the game. TGs have been back for a while (due to cards being unlimited), but they still suck unfortunately.

Learn to adapt. It's not bad as most people think. The game is at a faster pace. You mentioned Dark World, that deck isn't a top tier deck. It's consistency is horrid, which makes it easy to counter. Same with the new Pendulum summons.

If anything you're the one trolling by saying that. Sounds like a childish retort to me. It's no secret the same people that say that in RS are like 12. Even if you didn't mean it in the childish way the EoC moniker along the same lines has made it sound like trolling.

Game feels broken. A lot of people have this opinion on it. Pandasplosion was right (imo). Sure you can "learn to adapt" as you say. Doesn't mean it's as fun as it was before. Way less strategy involved.

Adapting to crappy change and adapting to different change are two totally different things.

Just to clarify: I'm not saying you are being childish saying it, just that it sounds that way (blame it on the RS idiots, I've only seen it in a negative light). But you thought I was trolling or being closed-minded. Not at all man..actually the opposite. I am open to change, but I don't always agree with it. I still play RS and Yugioh from time to time, but in my opinion, which you're free to disagree with, a lot of the strategy has been taken out of Yugioh. I guess in today's society we are always obsessed with finishing things quickly and efficiently. Seems like Yugioh is now meant to be a quick game versus a strategic one. Just my two cents. Does this mean strategy is completely absent? No, of course not. I see strategy still being involved...just not as much. I'm a strategy dork, that's probably why I don't like it. Too fast for my tastes.

Lastly, keep in mind I don't play in real life, I play online where kids just gamesave their files on Xbox 360 to have all 6k+ cards in the game. This is a big part of why strategy is absent in my experience. I can see how in real life, actually obtaining the cards, strategy is much more prevalent because decks will be very different.

 

I'm not a competitive player, but I used to collect the cards around 6-8 years ago. I was one of the best players in my school because of how much I played and how awesomely built my deck was. Recently, I started playing some of the yugioh video games again on the PS1 and PS2, they're really a blast for anyone who enjoyed Yugioh back in the day.

 

They ban most of the old good cards, yet have bullshit like Synchro and XYZ monsters now that are SO BROKEN. Makes no sense. That's my biggest gripe I think. Nope, you can't use monster reborn but you can summon a few 3000 atk monsters in one turn. That aren't impacted by cards like Gravity Bind. #Broken
