    Programming, beginner!

I am very interested in learning more about programming, specifically, Java. Could someone please give me some recommendations on where to start? Teaching myself will require hard work and patience, so I was wondering, what is the best way to begin?

Any particular video series work well for anyone? Entertaining, easy to follow, etc...

Thank you so much, any feedback is appreciated.

Very useful and thorough. There are 28 videos about an hour long each. This will teach you everything you need to know about the basics of programming. Good luck!

That is very good. If you don't like videos, there is any number of free tutorials but I suggest going out and buying a real book. They are far better.

If you have money, books are also good for reference. Nicely layed out, easy to read books with sticky notes. I keep books for references, and it helps a lot.

He's got videos on loads of stuff. What's good about his videos is that he runs through examples in detail and the videos only last 5 minutes each but are easy to follow.

I love those videos but I hate how the acm library is used throughout the class.

I used to watch his videos but I think he teaches some bad practices. He is good if you need to understand a general concept quickly. I can't stand how he names his classes lol ("Tuna", etc. when the program has nothing to do with tuna).
