    So I recently bought a pretty high level account from a guy that looks like he's trusted (has handled many high level account trades/lots of money), although all of the account trades he has done has been within 2 months. Trade went well, he gave me all of the info, including creation, billing, etc. I checked the account and it seemed legit that the original owner had quit and had not played in a year. However, I've heard lots of stuff about recoveries. The seller said he knows the original owner, and that if he happens to recover, he can refund me. However, he can only do this if he keeps the email otherwise people can pull a quick one on him and pretend it got recovered. Note that the jag is not set and has NEVER been set--so I can still set the recovery answers. He also gave me the option to just switch the email to one I want, but I won't be able to get a refund if recovered most likely

    Do you guys think i should switch the emails or have him keep it? I'm leaning towards getting the emails switched b/c it seems like i maybe can prove that the account was recovered anyways.
    What do you guys think?

    Adding onto Roary's post: Either way, if the account does end up getting recovered, the onus is still on him to refund you if he wishes to continue trading on Sythe (provided you have sufficient evidence to show that the account was indeed recovered from your possession).

    Makes it pretty much even easier to recover. Him not changing the email basically means the account probably isn't his and he doesn't have access to the registered email.

    He's I mark I, this is where I bought the account. Like I said it went pretty smoothly and he's legit as far as I know know, would just like some advice :)

    Yeah thats why I'm leaning towards changing emails. However what would be sufficient evidence? Would I have to email jagex asking what happened? Is there an easier alternative?

    The account records show that the email was changed before the account was sold probably to sellers email. Like I said he is not original owner and is selling from friends whom he bought it from.

    Account recovery is a nasty business, and this part of your post is sketchy af.
    I would say yes, you should definitely switch the email to one of your own. It shouldn't matter who controls the email; he should refund you if it gets recovered, period. (Or, at least, this is how I understand the rules working. I got caught up in a similar sort of thing earlier this year where this was the case... the other guy had his own email, JAG, etc. on the account and claimed it got recovered. I had to refund him anyway.)
    Also, being able to set your own JAG doesn't really help. If whoever controls the creation email address tries to recover the account with an appeal sent from that email address, they will win.

    Oh, and as for sufficient evidence, that's a point of contention as well. Apparently any recovery attempt (i.e., even something as useless as "help someone stole my account give it back") sent from an email address associated with the account constitutes evidence if it gets denied by Jagex. Or, at least, this is how it worked in my case.

    If it gets recovered it's Still on mark to refund you if he'd like to continue using Sythe.

    Doesn't seem like it's worth riskin his reputation over.

    You should put the account on your own email. Don't keep it on the throwaway it's already on since he has access to it if I'm not mistaken.

    Yeah he gave me the email and I changed the pword/recoveries on the emails, but I changed it to my own just in case. I was just wondering because he mightve used that email to do his own recover test, but I think he used an email before to try to do it.

    If I wrote an email to Jagex telling them I moved (possibly that account info was saved on other emails and got stolen), and that the current email where I set my jags on are the safest ones, would that increase my safety? I know there still a good chance seller/owner can recover, i've been told 99999 times, i'm just trying to increase my chances here.

    Sectional staff members can't permamently ban users, they have to ban them temporarily and ask global+ to change ban length to permament

    Accounts are always recoverable, regardless if you change email or not, regardless if you set your own JAG questions or not.
    Also, you can't set recovery questions, there's JAG now instead of it.
    By saying 'you wont be able to get refund if recovered' is typical for account trades. If account gets recovered you'll get scammed and user should be banned, as somehow he admitted he'll recover it. Anyways, if accounts gets recovered please post scam report against user and send me PM with filled out template from this thread so I'll add account to recovered accounts list

    Í think the thing he's doing is great. Because if you say the account got recovered but maybe you just changed the password and are lying to him. When an account gets recovered the email WONT receive any emails about it. If he changes it him self, you will receive an email about that there were changes to the account.

    He can know if you're lying or not. If you change the email it's your own problem, since you can't prove that it actually got recovered.

    Yeah I know why he wants to do it. However, giving the seller email gives him alot more power to scam you/recover it easily himself. You can still prove recovery by emailing jagex.
    Also if he changes it himeself/runs off with it you wont get an email about changes to account becuase you won't be able to access it....

    Little late Ghast let's be honest, Mark recovering the account ruins every little chance he has of getting back onto Sythe, I'd like to think that he's still going to be legit with his deals here despite leaving us.

    I'm also confident that he continued to try and sell his Golden Scythe account after it had actually been banned.
