I'm assuming you make a lot more owning your own company no? And OT it is a very beautiful place but I cannot see giving up my University degree to work out of country

 

It's something that would suit a few students on a gap year but nothing permanent.

 

In that case, I'd rather just make the $$ in Australia and travel for a year without having to worry about any work commitments. Any shitty casual retail or bar job here pays ~$25AUD per hour when you reach 21 years of age.

 

Even if you make atleast around 25AUD per hour, your country is one of the most expensive aswell. But probably still better than the other job of Playerauctions, no offense OP.

Absolutely. We'd help you you fin an apartment, get settled, we will take care of all your work documentation, and registration. We'll even introduce you to your first set of friends.

For Shanghai, likely what we would do is set you up in a hotel for 10 days. Then take you to view apartments we've sourced that are convenient to get to work, and ultimately you can chose which one you want to settle in. If you don't like living along, and prefer larger apartments/houses, then we can also look for shared apartments as well.

For Manila, likely what we would do is set you up in a PA sponsored apartment. It wouldn't be mandatory, and the choice to live on your own is definitely doable, and of course we would help as well.

Native english speakers not mandatory, though we would have expectations with a certain level of fluency. Europeans are more than welcome to apply, I am familiar with the english proficiency index (EPI) of most countries.

I particularly welcome diversity, so if you live in places like Eastern Europe, or Singapore, etc. etc., don't be shy. You are welcome to apply.

In 2012 we sold our main US operations businesses to Tencent. You may be familiar with Zam.com, thottbott, wowhead, allakhazam, etc. They maintain a mailing address for us, and while we are still a US registered business, we likely will not be re-establishing a presence in the states until we reach critical mass.

Definitely making a change. And as others have mentioned, the compensation stated is much higher than local minimum wages, and even higher than other countries in Europe. That doesn't mean we cannot attract top talent.

Like I said, I'm going out on a limb, here. There may be +no one+ from Sythe that we hire in the end. I have standards, and for those of them interested in the adventure, and meet my expectations, those are the ones we will on board.

As I said, we're not desperate. I have job postings in both these jurisdictions, and already I've had some great people interview. None with previous experience, but a lot with good attitudes and similar outlooks on CS, and are willing to learn.

From the responses I have gotten so far, I'd say I'm more than encouraged. At the end of the day, we're more looking for those wanting long term commitments, and who want to grow. I don't know how easy/difficult it is these days (like in the states) to get a job that offers fast upward mobility and development.

I've been here 5 years, and started out as a Customer Service Rep. I am now GM of PA and run three offices internationally. Hard work & commitment = personal and professional growth, and seeing opportunity realized. If things at PA were not optimal... guys, I could just move back to the magical land of southern california. No sweat off my back :love: But the experiences here, are great.

40k pesos/month is the equivalent of a Manager's salary. Therefore anyone taking a position with us, will be immediately having comp. advantage over others. You'd be in a very good place with us.

More realistically:
One bedroom apartment: 10k₱
Elec/Heat/Water/Garbage= 3k-6k₱ depending on the size of your house
Internet = 1k₱/month
Gas = You're going to take the Metro or Bus in Manila, not own your own car

So, you have 21k pesos of disposable income per month. That's 252k Pesos left over. Provided you don't quit your contract early, you'll then get a 13th month bonus. So, 290k₱ left over ^_^

Typical Meal: $0.90 - $5
Fancy Meal: $24
Taxi Rides: $2.50 - $4.00
Rent a Bungalow on the beach: $25/night
Luxury Night Club with a private booth and treating 10 of your friends to shots and liquor the whole night: $250 (compared to over $1k - $10k in the states)

I -might- consider "interns" but not at the salaries stated. So if someone wanted something temporary and wanted work experience, I'd be happy to indulge them.

As for working times, I am working this out. There are two possibilities, standard 3 shift per day, 8 hours each on a rotating 5 days, and 2 rest days. The other schedule is 12 hour shifts rotating, two days work, two days rest, two days work, two days rest. Some people prefer the latter, while others the former. I am still working this out.

Stay in school. Some people don't have the opportunity to get higher education, but if you do, stick with it :idea: :noworry: ^_^

No disagreement here. If people want a stint to check out a different culture, live in a metropolis, have an easy life, and get some work experience, no problem.

The likelihood of it realistically being a gap year is quite minimal however. As an example, people come to Shanghai on a gap year, and end up not leaving because they love it so much. Couple this with the fact that PA is growing, and that there are positions that will be available in other departments, then there is sideways growth as well if they want to sty with the company and transition into business, or finance, or risk management, etc. etc.

But yea, I'm not opposed to those who want to do a gap year. Would be a good one.

Really depends on what you're after. If you don't mind living on minimum wage lifestyle, and would prefer an all english speaking environment, then Aus might be a good choice. It really is a lovely place, especially Melbourne.

But in Shanghai, you'd be living well above minimum wage, could afford a nice social life, eat out often, and a maid who comes 3x a week to clean (and cook if you want).

The experiences are very different.

Sure. Anyone who is seriously interested in the position and does well interviewing with us can review a work for hire contract, and determine sign it if they wish to enter into employment with us. Our contracts are 1 year standard.

Safety:

Shanghai:
Has virtually no violent crime. You could be a hot girl stumbling out of a club at 4 am drunk off your ass, and WALK home by yourself and not have to fear a thing. There are pick pockets, yes. But in the 6 years I have lived here, I've had only two items stolen from me, and on both occasions I was careless on the level of practically asking for them to be stolen.

Sure a taxi might "Take you around the block", but that realistically happens maybe 5 times a year, out of say 600 annual taxi rides. Not a big deal, just don't act like a tourist hah (same in most countries ryt?). All forms of weaponry are illegal.

I feel less safe in America, than I do in China.

It is also very easy to make friends. There are parties every single day of the week, yes... even on Sundays.

Manila:
Local Filipinos will tell you to be safe. I have however, experienced no issues the several times I have been in Manila. And likely because a) our office is located in one of the main CBD's, and b) there are so many nice areas of the city, that it's not a big deal. The salary you would have with us, would allow you to dine, shop, and party in all of the high end areas of the city. There would be no reason for you to need to eat your meals in a local McDonald's in a shady area of town ^_^

Generally, Filipinos are known for their cheerful dispositions, playfulness, and politeness. They will always address you as Sir or Ma'am (or brother or sister).

 

I am actually interested in this. I would be interested in the Shang Hai position. I am currently 26 years old, live in USA, (Michigan). I do not speak chinese however have had a very very basic over view of it utilizing pinyin (romanized mandarin).

I have a lot of experience in customer service. I currently work at a mail order specialty pharmacy/desk job as a patient care coordinator. I set up shipments for prescriptions using computer and phone services. The work atmosphere I currently have seems what I imagine this would be?

I am interested because the pay seems adequate to have a life, but the experiences there seem like a once in a life time experience. I don't want to be on my death bed one day thinking, I stayed at my cubicle when I could have explored the world..

I am interested in more information.

EDIT: Also, I am not worried about safety, I currently live in Flint, Michigan. (Yeah.. I said it over the internet.. no one will bother to come here..)

In these big cities you won't be driving. You'll be saving the gas expense. Plus, you can always run a RSGP business with the money you save - probably doubling or tripling your income. A lot of the members here don't have the start up capital for rsgp trading, but with the money they save from the PA job they can easily start.

I am profoundly interested in virtual game markets and the real-life markets that are so intimately tied to them. I am an undergraduate student at one of the most elite universities in the USA, and professors here have been suggesting that I pursue formal research on these markets. I am seriously considering their advice, and interning at PA while performing research under my university seems like the perfect opportunity. Furthermore, I have no doubt that this could lead to a more permanent future relationship. Having ties with an elite university (that is also closely tied to one of the most elite business schools in the world) would certainly be beneficial to PA especially if my research gets published. Considering the severe lack of academic work on virtual game markets and their associated real-life markets, I believe getting published is a very real possibility.
