    Market price of BTC?

There's a huge gap between $950/1 at mtgox and $800/1 at btc-e and bitstamp. If I wanted to sell some of my BTC without using an exchange, around what price are people buying for at the moment?

Mtgox has had withdrawal issues; it's often difficult to take your money out of it once selling coins. The other exchanges have fewer problems of this sort. Thus they're probably more accurate market price estimates. This might help: http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/currency/USD.html

There is a reason why MTGox dropped from the largest exchange to being currently fourth in volume. Too many issues regarding funding in and out of the exchange. I've heard some unfortunate delay stories from folks trying to withdraw USD from BTC-e as well, so I stay away from that.

I currently use Bitfinex with acceptable results

Oh okay so it sounds like I shouldn't be using the mtgox price as an accurate estimate. I just found this site: http://preev.com/ and it seems like it's a fair price.

Having just one centralized exchange would be a big problem for bitcoin. 3-4 large ones with small competitors would be a good place to be.

Agreed, not saying I want it all in 1 place though, that'd be horrible.
I'm just saying it's a lot of choices, with all different payment methods and services :p

There are rumors circulating that Mt. Gox is insolvent. There are also rumors that they were involved with Silk Road and had assets confiscated in relation to the FBI case. I wouldn't put a dime into Mt. Gox right now. The BTC price on their exchange is absolutely meaningless. It may as well be $10,000 USD. What's it matter if you can't withdraw money. They're not real US dollars, they're play money.

I heard Mt. Gox is already fixing this issue. Better to deal with them when it’s already fixed before you could possibly lose your investment.
