    So i'd like to start making videos, but i'm unsure of what software to use, preferably free but paid is fine as well.

    Back when I used to record I used to use a registered version of Hypercam. If Camtasia doesn't work out for you I'd suggest trying Hypercam. :D

    camtasia recorder 8 not only provides the best video quality, but it also brings up the audio quality and is easy to use with editing programs like sony vegas
