Disallow pseudo linking Sythe urls

Kids are being dumb and falling for pseudo Sythe links. You should find a way to have the censorship function recognize when a URL="link" tag is used with a Sythe.org URL and either censor it, or automatically remove the bbcode.

So if it says

PHP:

[url="www.fakesythe.org"]www.sythe.org[/url]

Then it's just replaced with

PHP:

[url]www.sythe.org[/url]

An maybe a message saying "this user has attempted to hyperlink a Sythe.org URL"

 

I can't see why this wouldn't be beneficial.

Frankly, I'm surprised this hasn't already been addressed, phishing was (and obviously still is [see pulse]) a huge problem way back when before jagex implemented all their anti-phishing measures.

Yeah. Frankly, I think this should be extended to any links that have text beginning with "http://": if they don't have matching destination URL, then the hyperlink part should be removed and only the text should remain.

Example:

PHP:

[url=http://www.fakesite.com/]http://www.legitsite.com/[/url]

to

PHP:

http://www.legitsite.com/

This is why i always look at the bottom left side of my screen so i know if its legit, but yeah would be nice for this to be fixed

 

Not sure how this would be done, whether there's a vbul plugin already or whether it would have to be custom coded, but I'll definitely try and get Matt's and Richard's attention directed towards this page and see if either of them could get something going. Definitely a good suggestion.

 

Only knowing java myeslf, the easiest solution I can think of is a bit of script activated when a user attempts to use URL and parameter tags-- like that, but not when it's just because that would drastically cut...thing outside matthew's skill level I'm sure.

Good, it only replaces it if both are actual correctly-formatted URLs

I also like that you can still see the tag as it was written when you quote/edit the messages. Good foresight in preserving phishing attempt evidence

 

Think it might have messed with images hyperlinked with urls, take a look at my signature.
