I use a couple websites for different things from clothes, electronics, shoes.

some of them are iOffer, 6pm, buckle (nothing goes on sale in store), eastbay.

Was wondering where you guys get your stuff for better prices, i'm kind of new to shopping online without physically going to the store and trying on what I want first, and this would help me a lot.

Amazon usually. Don't really trust anywhere else.

That's understandable but FYI 6pm is the stuff amazon didn't sell so they have huge markdowns on items, not all of em are good looking but you can find good picks on there pretty often. And 6pm is OWNED by amazon not just amazon selling it off to some other website to resell.

For consumer electronics not so much, but if I'm looking at price or quantity over quality of parts for my electronics projects I always use eBay. Can get packs of hundreds of resistors, capacitors, diodes etc. for little more than a couple of dollars. An Arduino Pro Mini 328 will cost you $3 and an Arduino Uno R3 will cost you $10 on eBay, but the same things can get up to $50 retail.

For books I usually use BookDepository for price and shipping.

For actual consumer electronics I usually use Umart Online, but that's more of a Queensland / Australian store (Though I think they're expanding to other states)

    This
Amazon and eBay are the easiest as far as finding anything you need for a low price.

Amazon is the easiest, but I don't like using it because it puts a lot of online businesses out of business by undercutting them massively, and obviously their own stock will appear at the top of the list. It knocks out tonnes of small businesses and it's really unfair. I know that's business but for a company that's ruined so many sole traders and online businesses and a company that treats their employees like total shit... eBay for me, from people.

Gumtree is pretty big here for deals. There's another one that's like HotUKDeals or something which highlights loads of good buys at different shops which is pretty useful.

Amazon almost exclusively. I like the convenience of having whatever I want appear at my doorstep in under 48 hours and sometimes even in less than a day (without ordering next day shipping!)

I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with auction sites? Are any of those potentially profitable, or are they just the crappy places where you have to pay like $0.50 to bid $0.05 over the next person and it takes 500 bids to get an item?

They do have low prices, but If you find even lets say footlocker having an online sale the shoes are cheaper on there. Not to mention my Polo Faxon low's are even cheaper at champs and footlocker (one in Mall of America) then online at amazon or ebay, plus there guaranteed new in store. I know that the specific stores aren't online, but if one store has a certain price for a shoe they have to honor it even if they don't got your size.

Again, amazon has lower prices but not the lowest. It's like walmart claiming they have the lowest prices when in reality there TV's's sell for .01 cents less then the same one at best buy. Technically its lower but it's to minuscule to care.

I've been told to stay away from the action sites because you get carried away with the whole "$50,000 dollar car" thing so you bid a couple hundred times only to have someone snag it last minute and you wasted $250.

Amazon compares prices and gives you the best one available. Only about 50% of the time are you actually buying your items FROM amazon. Half of the time, it's from a third party vendor, who's prices are advertised on amazon. That's why you can click the "new" or "used" links and it'll show you a whole list of sites and their prices of the same item. So you may very well actually be buying from footlocker with footlocker prices if you find a shoe on amazon that footlocker carries.

No, I've literally known of businesses and seen documentries about businesses who are unable to compete with amazon and been put out of business @woodcut.

Sure, they can sell in other places. But Amazon, in some areas of market, is a predatory pricing strategy to the extreme.

Amazon as well, you can actually find quite a few good deals if you check out their lightning deals and daily deals!

A lot of stuff sold on Amazon is sold third party sellers. Of coarse they have to pay some fees, but it's good for merchants that don't have enough products to open their own site. There's plenty of websites that are successful merchants. Often these websites can charge even higher prices then Amazon because they're items are more specific. For example:

    newegg.com
    rockauto.com
    lukiegames.com

Navigating to a different website is a lot easier than traveling IRL to different stores.

Always ebay/amazon for shipable items and craigslist for non-shipable -- you really have nothing to worry about as long as you're semi-careful

I use Amazon, Newegg, bestbuy, staples, office depot. I only buy them unless its a really good deal. Amazon is usually worth it because its always cheap and free shipping. You can buy Amazon GC's for as low of 50% to 80%.

As of a couple weeks ago, I picked up a 1TB Western Digital My Passport for $32.00 with a $30 off $60 coupon from Staples and the listing price was at 59.99.

Newegg and Ebay because I usually find pretty good deals here. I am with Roary about Amazon. I have bought from Amazon but only if I can't find the item somewhere else first after comparing prices.
