    Online Business

So i'm really set on creating a business plan for some kind of online business that I would be able to run by myself & or with a few others.

Anyone know what kind of online business are maintaining success in today's market, weather it be for online goods, or physical goods, or some kind of online service?

The only thing that i'v almost went through with was a custom controller business, because if done right, the market for them is huge.

Any input on this is appreciated :)

    Thanks

I used to buy broken xbox 360's on eBay in bulk and fix them, then resell individually on eBay as refurbished for a nice profit. Takes time to learn the art of properly fixing them, but once you get it down it's well worth the time and investment

If you wanted to try reselling shoes with me let me know.

You get a bot for purchasing Jordans, buy them for retail when they release and sell them for way more.

The last release, Oregon Foamposites, retailed at 250 and sold for 700+

Hmm, under what I know about buying shoes, is that you use some kind of bot to buy shoes from the websites that offer the shoe for sale upon release.

How does the whole buying/re-selling shoes work? Do you only buy one? do you buy 5? do you buy hundreds?

I've got the bot down just need another person or 2 to work with me.

As far as reselling goes there are various facebook groups with 10k+ members that I can resell to.

You buy as many as you can get (anywhere from 1-10, whatever you can afford really) with your bot.

The bots are used to get the shoe into your cart and help you checkout with it when ordering online the second the shoe is released.

There was just another one, the Jordan 3lab5, they retailed at 225, were being resold for well over 350.

PM me if you actually think this sounds good to you! I was hoping to find a co-investor and get started.

I mean it does sound like a great idea, but I want to run a legit business, that's more or less personal.

Pluss I don't want to get into business with someone I don't know.

I'm simply looking for some business ideas, that I can have bounce around in my head, and decide what I want to do in the end :p

Imo doing something unique is the way to go when it comes to online businesses. It is really hard to compete with stuff that is already so popular.

Well thats the purpose of this thread, just throw a bunch of ideas my way, i'm pretty much down to anything as long as it's manageable.

As to what I want to do, I want something unique and creative, that may not start out quick or something but once it gets noticed, people would be like damn this website's awesome.

My favorite business idea right now is to create a new era custom gaming controller for competitive CoD but i'v put that on the side to come up with some other business ideas.

I totally agree with this, but the difficult part now is going to be thinking about something where that is possible, but still able to be marketed well

What is your background? (education, experience, areas of expertise). Need to answer that question first.

If you're young, and wide-eyed, then start simple.

    • wordpress site, with checkout plugins
    • tmall site
    • playerauctions store <--shameless plugin, I know.

All ways to get started with varying degrees of simplicity. With the first two, you'll need you're own merchant account from an acquiring bank to process payments, or apply for a merchant account from PayPal (but in this case, be prepared to deal with fraud and chargebacks). If you're not prepared for that, then using PA for processing your payments will cover that for you.

There are specifically two ideas that I have which PA will be developing for in the future.
    1) Legit Gaming Services: Services like helping people to quest for items or achievements. Or performing in-game events, or role-playing, etc. etc. The latter, I think could be really fun, and you could incorporate gold selling into that service. Because instead of purchasing the gold, people would be purchasing your roleplaying as a service, and during the event, the character dong the roleplaying could just "drop" some gold as part of the event. In this case, the buyer is paying for a player's time, not the commodity, and therefore this doesn't break a game's EULA/TOS.

We'll be having a category for this up by February, but if someone wanted to try listing it in items category, or in power leveling category, you can PM me.

    2) Trading Card Games: Magic the Gathering, pokemon, etc. etc. We recently conducted a survey on our website, and 20% of users play collectible card games, which means there is definitely a market on our site. Unlike MMO's games, wizards of the coast endorses secondary markets for it's games.

    Hope this helps.

As for background, I really just know what I know from seeing other business succeed and just doing some minor research, and it's got me into a good career path, but my ultimate dream/goal is to just own my own business.

But, I want it to be some kind of custom business, it could be mowing lawns, it could be creating product for something, customizing xbox controllers, something that I could be hands on would be great, but virtual is also nice as i'm technical "Savvy" and enjoy doing things on the computer (If i got a data entry job, I would love my life, and my job) I love customer support, but there is no way i'm going to make a living working for some company doing customer support for them.

In my eyes, just buying and re selling gold isn't a source of stable income. The market is very sketch, there are high chances of being banned, it's against the rules, nothing about selling gold is appealing to me. Doing it here and there is fun and awesome yes, but not as a career path that I could see myself going down in the future.

Runescape is only going to last so long, and i'm not going to do a service for something I don't 100% enjoy ya know?

Cool, more power to you. My best advice would be then to learn programming and get an IT background.

You'll have full control over an eCommerce business. Some people have a tech background but lack the business element. Its powerful to have both.

What kind of degree would offer both something like computer information systems, but as well as some kind of marketing or entrepreneur class? Will I have to have a major and a minor?

The only way you'll know, is if you try.

Do something, and go for it. If it fails, reevaluate why it did.

From there, find a niche, and just go. Stop asking for advice.

Get a dual degree in computer science and accounting. Programming is the language of technology, accounting is the language of business. You will be able to write your own ticket once you graduate.

I'm an attorney, so I have to say that a law degree will also open so many doors for you. But as far as being an entrepreneur, I think accounting and computer science would be the most valuable skills.

Yeah, now a days with computers being such a big part of anything and everything, i'm thinking about going for computer information systems, as it's a degree where I can get into about anything computer related, and could lead to opening my own IT company (Long term goal of mine)

not 100% sure why you even bother posted, nobody gets anywhere without asking questions.

That is all. Please don't post anymore.
