Are less people playing runescape now?

 

Yes, at the moment, Runescape has less people online than they did almost 10 years ago.

 

I wouldn't doubt that's true, but could you provide a source for this?

Doubt so. When the Bot Nuke happened, it actually cleansed away ALL the bots at that time and actually finally showed how much players they have that are playing legitimately.

 

Ive never seen a full world on rs3 this year

I can offer some insight into this guys with regards to the trading activity which takes place on our platform.

After RS 2007 launched, we saw an interesting shift in activity, but as of these last 7 weeks this is what we find:

Currency Trading:
- RS3 33% of total transactions
- RS 2007 66% of total transactions

There are some additional interesting metrics within the Game Accounts, Items, and Powerleving categories, so what I'll do is spend some time to dig up some additional raw data and I'll post a more in-depth analysis for those of you interested.

Runescape has been slowly dying since 2008, and there's no surprise, the more updates they did, the more people quit, like removing the wilderness, then the free trade update, then it was the EoC, and now RS3. It's lost them a lot of players. Some people don't like change.

You can see graphs for average, peak, and total number of players online for rs07 and rs3 side by side starting from February 2013.

This doesn't show anything prior to that date, but I'm sure most people are more interested in how the community has responded to recent changes rather than what the number of players was like years ago. Note that these graphs obviously don't distinguish between decreased number of bots and players leaving the game. Think about what you see, and don't just blindly use the data.

EDIT: Wanted to point out that the number of players has been increasing over the last few weeks. It's unclear why, probably partially due to people playing over holiday breaks.

It is highly unlikely that runescape will ever surpass 250k players again. They have opted for a smaller playerbase who pay more through SoF and Solomon's store than a higher active playerbase. The max players per day is unlikely to reach 50k+

 

So do you think the player base will fall even more?

 

Well if they continue with nonsense updates it will fall more.
