I'm wondering why recently discontinued tradeable items (Fish Mask, Christmas Tree Hat, Crown of Seasons) are going down in price over time. The Fish Mask is only 1m:

I'm guessing too many of them were put into the game, so the supply is far greater than the demand? I was thinking they might be good items to invest in long term. It's been over a year since any new Fish Masks were put into the game.

I think that they are good to invest in short term but not so much long term. There will be, and there always has been, periods where prices fluctuate up and down. As you can see from the graph the overall trend is downward but if you sell at the peak time you will still be able to make money.

    You answered your question >.>

It was easy to get and was like that for a long period of time. Not to mention it's ugly.

I remember making bank merching these when they were in demand. Now I would not touch them with a ten foot pole :/

I agree with Cruellex. Short term, they may not be a bad idea.

The party hats and what not are truly rare because people did not know what they had at the time. There were only a few of them released and as more players joined the game, the demand went up sharply for them over time as they A. looked decent and B. were a status for one to show their wealth. By players making it a symbol of wealth status they were often hoarded, etc. When someone thinks of a wealth status do they think of a fish mask? No, they think they are a poor man's mask that is cheap and doesn't even look good. If they are 1m it is the equivalent of 30c. That is one cheap ass mask.

With Jagex releasing them looking terrible and for the fact that it was mentioned they would be discontinued the market wasn't able to take its natural turn and people artificially tried to raise it by creating the demand and hoarding them. It was basically a long term merch. And what happens once all the stock is dumped and the market is saturated? The price crashes rapidly.

Granted there is a limited stock of them but that is all they have going in their favor. There is not a new wave of players coming to the game and for the ones that do come, they see an unappealing mask so they have no desire to purchase one.

There are more fish masks than active players, they won't ever be rare enough to increase in price.

That's what I was afraid of. RS seems to be dying, unless something changes I guess they'll never get the chance to become rare.

Fish masks were everywhere at one stage, I must have merched at least 30 of them when the pricing was decent, where you could flip them for 1m. Nowadays, there won't be as much demand, as they're not as rare as phats.
