Last logged in. Will this damage RWT?

There goes quite a large role in a bank wipe/incomplete skilling/fcape/etc order scam report. Thoughts?

 

Anyone with a brain with account logins knows to use a VPN or something to conceal their IP address. I'd say the most they've managed to stop is DDoS attacks on hacked accounts that have the IP on them, though even then they are rare.

I don't see why Jagex are trying to kill RWT that much. Its pretty much keeping the game alive the past few years.

 

last logged in IP can easily be faked, shouldn't really be banning people off that basis alone

 

No, but it has been conclusive in a load of cases. You'd be surprised at how many last logged in's match someone's home IP and just bring another coincidence to the table when dealing with a difficult situation like most of those cases are.

I just found it odd they removed it. How will you know if someone else has been on your account unless you enable JAG (God forbid...).

 

Hackers can't get your home IP now....? I'm not quite sure what their reasoning was on this one. Account recovery scam reports will definitely be a little tougher now, though.

 

Its pretty obvious that someone has logged into your account when your bank has gone missing..lol. I've never been hacked and had to look at the i.p. to know it.


Its mostly to keep people who do livestreams safe. They would lag out to the lobby and then everyone in the stream would see their ip, which is obviously a security issue.

 

My ip has never shown on accounts I log into. I think it has something to do with my dad's work server and playing runescape through that.

Presuming they removed it for IP address privacy, would displaying an IP hash (something similar to what this website uses for public user IP audits) not be more logical?

 

They shouldn't need IP address privacy if it's on your own account.

It's like me logging into Sythe and seeing my IP in the top right corner - there's no problem with it.

 

It probably had something to do with a famous streamer accidentally showing IP and being DDoS'ed, honestly.

 

If someone maliciously logs into your RuneScape account, having them also gain your IP address isn't something most people would want (maybe the hacker is an extreme asshole and decides to DDoS you for the shits of it).

Also, this guy makes a good point.

 

Kind of unsafe, for people without JAG their account could be compromised for weeks or more without them ever knowing, with the hacker just waiting for them to withdraw the most value from their bank (so that it can be stolen without the bank pin) I don't know how common this is though.

 

They removed it because of the Ddosing...states it on the front page.

 

Yeah streamers would accidentally show their ip on their livestream and get ddosed so they removed it.
