Youtube videos?

When you make a post on sythe you have the ability to embed a youtube video directly into your post.

It will look something like this:


This is a really convenient feature but it seems to have one issue. When you click this button instead of expanding the video to full screen it will take you another page to view the video on youtube. If you want to watch the video in full screen your only options are to watch it on the other page or zoom way in. I've encountered this enough times on the site and its been enough of a minor annoyance for me to post a suggestion about it.

My suggestion is simply finding a way where videos can be embedded in posts and still allow you to view them in full screen. I'm not sure how difficult it would be technically to fix but it seems to work on other sites so I'm sure it could be done.

I suppose I'm not necessarily looking for support(because who wouldn't support this? o.o) but rather seeing if its technically possible to do/if someone is available right now who could fix this.

 

If you want to view a video in fullscreen on Sythe, why not just click the heading? That will open up a new window or tab which will redirect you to the original youtube page, and from there you can view the vid in fullscreen. It takes an extra 5 secs max...

Yes, I'm aware of that as stated in the original post. The point is that its taking you off-site (which isn't something you want) and it seems like an easy enough fix. Why would you want to view it on youtube when you can view it right here without leaving the page?

Works perfectly fine on other forums, I don't see why you couldn't.

I'm having a hard time following your train of thought. If there is something that can be made easier/smoother or a bug that can be fixed why WOULDN'T you do it? Unless its going to take up hours of a developers time I can't think of a single reason why this shouldn't be tidied up.

 

Oh I thought it just took you to the Youtube page. I assumed that Google had made an embeddable player that people used. My bad.

 

Oh that's weird. I wasn't getting the [expand] button on Safari, it just looked like this. On Chrome however, I do see what you're talking about.

 

On mobile, it already works.

Just click the youtube logo and it will take you to youtube.. and from there you can watch it in fullscreen.. i dont see the problem

Because why would you want it to open another tab when it can play it directly on-site? Its obviously just a minor issue but I doubt its intended to pull you off site. Based on the responses I'm getting I probably shouldn't have phrased it as a suggestion, rather as a bug fix.

 

It's not a bug.

You have to be real lazy to not mind switching in between tabs.

 

You're right, sythe intentionally set it up to work correctly for some users and redirect others - NOT.

Its not that I'm "real lazy" I just prefer things to work correctly. Besides, its bad business to direct people off site.

edit: Do you have an actual argument against having it fixed other than "huehuehue you're lazy?"

Remember when there was a scroll bar at the bottom of the page when you viewed sythe? It was a minor bug that wasn't too much of an annoyance at all, you could simply ignore it. What if people responded saying "You hardly notice it no support" "wow are you really that ocd, who cares?"

Its not a huge deal but it IS something that should probably get fixed.

Know what, I'll just have someone lock this and move the thread to feedback or the bug report thread.

 

If this can be done, yeah sure. It doesn't seem like a huge deal considering the time taken to load the extra Youtube page is hardly a couple of seconds, but I can see how it'd be annoying.

 

Don't see it to be that important. But, as Brendan said, if it's a quick fix, sure, why not.
