have any of you guys ever worked at an overnight camp?

I'm considering working at an overnight camp next summer, but don't really want to do it if I'll be stuck up north doing something I won't like.

For those who have, got any cool experiences?

 

It just depends on the camp to be quite honest.

It's usually a fun experience, especially if you're not in a relationship. Without knowing what exactly you'll be doing it's hard to say but i think you'll have a fun time. Not to mention, it gets you out and about for a while.

I assume he means going as some kind of counselor for a kids summer camp, forgive me if I read it wrong.

If you're doing it for the money my suggestion is don't bother...you would make more working part time at mcdonalds lol. If you're doing it for the experience then its your call really.

Personally its not something I'd be super interested in.

 

Y'know, I'm a New Zealand citizen, and I was contemplating doing this. They offer programs in which you are able to travel and work as a counsellor at a summer camp over the period of summer - then 3 months travel, afterward. After all the research I done, it's really up to how well you get along with children/early teens, how you like the outdoors, what style of camp and what activity you are placed in. Do some research on specific camps you are wanting to work at, see how highly they are rated.

 

I worked at my church's camp and it wasn't bad. I assume, however that is because I knew most of the staff since I was a kid. It's was a fun experience being up north for a summer, though.

 

Also of it depends on what you mean by a overnight camp, if you're working as a camp counselor I would highly recommend it. The pay is not the best but you get good experience from it. and the majority of the time your room and board are paid for. You'll end up spending extra on stuff you wouldn't need if you didn't have that job, but you gain alot of extras and your active alot of the time.

 

Go for it dude, you'll never know until you try it -- go out and have an experience, and enjoy it.

 

In reply to everyone knocking the pay, don't forget he'll also be getting free lodging and food.

 

Plus it will look good on a CV, even if you don't like it.
