    We're having bon fires every night to try reduce the fuel load around the shed.

    Second solar panel arrived and I happily installed it. Lots more online time for me now. Third panel coming. Will have to put them on the roof at some point.

    This is the less than 100% awesome sink I built. But it works well enough. The drain empties alongside the vege garden so we don't waste our grey-water.

    It still happens all around the world. If there isn't some form of enforcement agency it will simply come back (not that it isn't around now). I fear the same thing would happen with states very easily.

    Actually you have no idea how slavery works. It's only profitable to keep slaves if you can externalize the cost of preventing their escape. Ie slavery is only profitable where the state is used to keep the slaves in line. Observe for example sex trafficking wherein illegal immigrants are enslaved by threat of deportation and being discovered hangs over them. Another example: migrant workers in Saudi Arabia who have their passports confiscated and cannot escape the region without one.

    While what you're saying does have truth, you can not know that without government interference, there wouldn't be any slavery, as it seems you are implying? Regardless, with or without government there is going to be slavery and really the choice comes down to trying to lessen suffering and I would say government does a better job at that than not. Meaning, government, in general, makes things better and not worse. But that's a whole issue in itself that I doubt you agree with me on and I really don't feel like getting into, to be perfectly honest.

    Go ahead and find an instance of it.

    Regardless, government is slavery. So what would you rather have:
    a) definite slavery
    b) the possibility that there might be slavery

    So let me get this straight. You wouldn't risk abolishing the slavery called government because without this slavery there might be slavery?

    And lessen the suffering? How does the historical number one cause of unnatural death and poverty lessen suffering?

    You speak of government as if it is some panacea which will solve all problems. -- As though giving the legal right to kill and steal to any group of people is a good idea. But if it's so great then why does it need to be forced on people at the point of a gun? Show me a single voluntary government anywhere.

    I've gained huge respect for Sythe by reading this thread. He stands for everything I stand for, yet I cannot live like he is living. It would probably be a lot simpler for me considering I'm a vegetarian, but I'm not capable of living away from the people I love - and they wouldn't want to come along for the ride.

    All in all you've got a heck of a new lifestyle and a generous, understanding girl. If this is a long term plan, make sure she is in it. Also, keep us updated. This is incredible and I believe there's more than a few of us who envy you and would love to be in your position.

    I agree with some of the comments that you should get a beast of a pet, it's necessary as a deterrence and as another thing you can love.

    Oh and as far as the distilling and growing operations for absolutely necessary substances, inconspicuous pictures of them would be nice. ;)

    The fallacy in this is that you assume all slavery is equal. It most certainly is not. If we accept your premise for a moment, and assume we are all slaves to government, we are a lot better off and live much better lives than slaves did back in the 1700's did.
