    This is something i've thought of doing, respect goes to you for actually going for it though.
    Can i ask, obviously you plan for it to be sustainable in terms of actually living, but do you plan to sustain the more 'luxury' things, i.e electronics, and also things like chainsaws and machinery?
    Also, do you have a goal that you want to achieve out there besides surviving?

    True respect for doing this Sythe. If you can make everything like you want it and can make a rather comfortable living I'd say you pretty much beat the system.
    No working for the state for ages, not a lot of rules, rather living in a quiet place and having a good life.
    Also, applaus for your girlfriend, not many girls would do this! :p

    EDIT: Have you thought about renewable resources to make life easier? Such as hydro / more solar panels?
    How do you tend to make money for the materials you need or anything else?
    Gosh, I'm pretty curious.

    I saw earlier that you lived on over 1000 acres, is it like freestanding land or do you own it yourself? Was just wondering as an acre of land in england is worth like £7000.

    There is currently an insanely huge property bubble almost everywhere in the world fueled by cheap mortgages and fractional reserve banking.

    The only way to get cheap land is to find some with no sealed roads or services. Land like this is impossible to get a mortgage for, because it won't be able to get building approvals / other government bullshit and has no power or water. If no one can get a mortgage to buy the land then no one can bid $1 million for it. Thus the bubble doesn't extend past the sealed roads.

    It rains over 1000mm a year here. Our water tank is only 9000L but is almost always full. We also have two large dams.

    Update: Looks like we're getting our road fixed in the next couple of weeks. Our contractor came and inspected a couple days ago. Also had the local volunteer fire service come through and have a look. Apparently we need more clearing and hazard reduction burn work to be fire safe. We're in the middle of fire season for this area now. Apparently it runs start of August until end of October, since these are the low rainfall months.

    Will let you know if we get burnt to a crisp... but we're going to head back to civilization for a bit at the end of this week anyway.
