Bad luck? or am I retarted...

about 2 months ago I got a brand new truck and since then had been accident free until 2 days ago... now keep in mind I consider myself a good alert driver which makes me wonder how I did something so stupid. Today is Thursday, on Tuesday I backed up into a rock and scratched my bumper, Wednesday I cut it way too close to a cement pole and scratched the hell out of the side of my truck, and today (woo hoo) I had to back up to go around someone with their emergency flashers on, and ended up backing right into another car. I'm just wondering, am I retarted or am I being punished..
Yes I'm very frustrated and upset.

You really can't call yourself a retard because of those kind of stuffs. It happens to everyone, so don't be harsh on yourself. You can just say that you're experiencing some bad luck these days.

 

Maybe the visibility from the inside of your truck sucks. All of the accidents could have been caused in part by that. Also, if you owned a smaller car before this one, you just might not be used to the dimensions of your new car.

 

Another reason for the host of problems you've been having is you might be paranoid, from the first "incident". Now whenever you're in your truck you think somewhat differently, possibly panic in situations you shouldn't.

 

Yeah, I'm definitely more worried when I'm backing up ever since I first hit something... I'm just upset because every day for three days in a row i've fucked up my truck... and it sucks :L

Maybe you're just not paying as much attention since you're focused on something else.

 

This happens more then you think. Just pay attention while you drive.

 

It wouldn't make sense for him to not be used to driving that vehicle, he was accident free for two months. Doesn't make sense that just all of a sudden he is unaware of the size of his vehicle.

However, maybe this is a sign that you should drive a smaller vehicle, or a shittier vehicle that you won't be afraid to get it banged up a little bit.

 

This kinda shit happens to everybody... I had a friend who hit 6 deer in 5 days...

Anyway, are you new to driving a truck? Is this new truck your FIRST truck? Maybe it has more/worse blind spots than your previous truck? Maybe it sits up higher, which can affect vision in a few different ways. Maybe it sits lower and your used to looking for different things than you need to now.

Don't take it out on yourself. With the types of accidents you're having, I would say you just need some more time to get used to your vehicle. Maybe recreate your driving test when you first got your license until you think you would pass it easily in this truck.

Not true. I drove a big body car when I was learning to drive. Went MONTHS without a single accident, 1 day, went through a space I didn't even consider being to small for the car and scratched up cars on both side of me as well as my buddy's car.

For example, if he drove a fuckin' coop for 10 years, then got in a truck, he might get lucky for 2 months, turn around and not realize that car/rock was to close when back up. I've drove my mom's PT cruiser for over 4 years now and am still so used to drivin a big body when I meet a car on a small rode I end up with 2 tires off in the grass and 2 still on the road.

 

Yeah, my previous vehicle was a toyota camry. Bit of a smaller, and definitely sits lower. I am focused on other things lately, I'll try to pay more attention. And hopefully tomorrow will be my first accident free day . Thanks for all the kind words, gonna have to take my truck to the shop later this week to get the dents pulled and the scratches out. I thought I knew the vehicle, but I do admit I underestimate how large it is.

 

What kind of truck do you drive? I've been looking into a long box diesel but I'm not sure if I'd be able to DD it without doing what you've done, lol

 

it's a Chevy silverado extended cab, LT Texas edition. it's quite long, and definitely can't make a lot of u-turns, but I like the tow performance (I have a boat)
