This is a picture I drew of Odin (attempted to anyway) by looking at artwork over the internet, I drew it around a year ago and when I started writing my novel, I decided to use this figure for one of my characters. I'm currently writing where this character makes his first appearance and am describing him. He's a wizard and I'm worried by calling the hat just a "floppy hat" readers will misinterpret the concept and think of the usual cliche for a wizard's hat.

I would go into enough detail to describe every inch of fabric in the hat, but I think a book is better by leaving a little more to the imagination, but one of the things I would like is for this character above others to be imagined exactly how I imagined him (well, how some people imagine Odin I suppose).

And this is what I absolutely do NOT want people to think I'm describing:

The one in your art kinda looks like:
    - A leaf
    - A mushroom
    - Traditional Chinese straw hat

its not intended to be straw or asian. Its a common depiction of Odin, so I'd say its probably Scandinavian in origin. Usually depicted as some kind of semi-stiff fabric or leather. Some pictures it looks like it may be made of hide, like a cowboy hat with the brim down all around instead of up on the sides.

Here are some better depictions by real artists:

This Image was found on google images titled "Odin the Wanderer, Father of the North" but the man resembles the wizard from LOTR, so this might just be a clip from LOTR with the top of his pointy wizard hat cut off.

Edit: Gandalph is who I'm thinking of. Couldn't remember his name for shit when I originally typed that. lol

I have already described the hat in my story with the best of my ability. I depicted it as cloth, the brim hanging down over his eyes and the top being flat. Of course, I used slightly more detail and described it better than I just did, but consider this thread closed, I beat my writers block after only 3 hours of pondering!

What you're describing, with a flat top, a 360 degree brim low over the eyes, is a bucket cap. Most styles have short brims though, they're not as long as the depiction you posted of oden
