George Zimmerman Rescues family After Car Crash

George Zimmerman, the man whose acquittal on murder and manslaughter charges in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin set off a wave of protests across the nation, helped rescue a family from an overturned SUV four days after the verdict, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday.

The statement said that on Wednesday, at approximately 5:45 p.m. ET, the sheriff's office responded to a single car accident at an intersection in the Sanford, Fla., area not far from where Zimmerman, 29, shot Trayvon, 17, in February 2012. The statement said a blue Ford Explorer had run off the road and rolled over with a family of four inside.

When a deputy arrived at the scene, two men had already helped the family out of the SUV. One of the men was Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watch coordinator in Sanford.

"Zimmerman was not a witness to the crash and left after making contact with the deputy," the statement said. "There were no report of injuries."

A jury of six women acquitted Zimmerman, who pleaded self-defense, of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges July 13. That set off protests across the nation, highlighted by "Justice for Trayvon" rallies held Saturday in more than 100 cities.

Zimmerman's father, Robert, told ABC's Barbara Walters that death threats have been extended to his son and others in the family.

"We have had an enormous amount of death threats," Robert Zimmerman said. George's legal counsel had had death threats, the police chief od Sanford , many people have had death threats. 'Everyone with Georgie's DNA should be killed'--just every kind of horrible thing you can imagine."

A standoff between protesters and Gov. Rick Scott is showing no signs of ending anytime soon Monday morning.

The protesters angered by the verdict In the Zimmerman trial have spent a week at the Capitol. On Monday, they repeated demands that Scott call a special session and ask legislators repeal Florida's "stand your ground" law.

 

Omfg, It's almost as if zimmerman is a human with good intentions and we just have this skewed, horrible image of him because half the population has denied all fact and instead hung him on a cross.

 

I don't see why this is even news. He isn't some jackass. He saw that people needed help and he helped. Everyone should do that.

 

Can we talk about something important. The media does this just to enrage morons. Why did the media not talk about the two black kids beating the young white girl to death for her bike. to me that is a greater hate crime. Im moving to canada

The media just appeals to the masses and sends them journalism of a high school quality and skews their stories heavily so as not to have the media station itself present the view, but that the viewer/reader of the media product will likely interpret it that way.

 

It's all about money, it doesn't matter whether or not anything is newsworthy :|

 

Why wasn't it a big deal? it was blacks killing whites, not the other way around. You will find the same bullshit in Canada. Its everywhere.

The only reason Zimmerman was trialed was because the kid was black. Everyone in this day of age talks about anti-racism, but by god, if your going to defend yourself or assault someone, you better hope he's white, otherwise your the bad guy, your a racist and you deserve to be in prison.

Did you see the pictures of Zimmerman after the scuff with the kid he shot? If he hadn't shot him, I don't doubt at all that kid would have beat him to death.

I'm sure a lot of people will say he saved these people for publicity, to clear his name, all that shit. The truth is he's just a good guy that wanted to help them just as he would have helped Trayvon if the kid wasn't trying o kill him.

The death threats, how much do you want to bet he wouldn't be getting those if trayvon was white? People, especially non-white people, are constantly crying and bitch about white people being racist, but it has developed into an entire world being racist against white people.

 

I personally believe he's been trying to help his community, and what he did to Trayvon Martin was in self defense. George Zimmerman's a good guy, and the world needs more people like him.

I know people who would. I know people who would pull out their phones and start recording it hoping they could sell it to a news station instead of help the people trapped inside.
