Need help rescheduling a job interview QUICK!!

Earlier today, I got called for an interview at mcdonalds, they asked if I could be there at 9am tomarrow, I said yes and made the appointment, sadly I had my days mixed up at the time and thought today was monday and tomorrow was tuesday, because tomorrow I'm leaving before the interview and will not be back until sunday night. This is the 2nd interview I've had in 5 years of job searching, I really need this but it is 100% impossible for me to make the appointment I earlier agreed on. What will be the best way to reschedule the interview without it looking bad on my end?

My life literally depends on this, if I don't have a job by my court date on the 22nd of this month, I could be in shit, I'm currently being charged with a class D felony for not paying child support, I can't afford for them to not want to hire me because I seem unprofessional when trying to reschedule.

 

Your first problem is wasting time on sythe when you can't pay child support.

But to stay on topic and give you respect: Being honest is your best bet. Call up Mcdonalds and tell them you made a mistake. Try your best to sound literate, don't drop any foul words.

Postpone your trip a few hours, attend your interview then leave.

Call them up tomorrow morning right when you wake up before 9am. In a situation like this, you need to lie. You definitely can't tell them that you got the days mixed up. You need to think of a good excuse. Tell them a family member of yours had a stroke or something and you had to go to the hospital immediately. You could also say you got in a car accident on the way there. Just think of something believable to tell them. It's not like they're going to look into it or anything. I know it might be wrong to lie like that, but it's really the only chance you have if you want to get another chance. Tell them how sorry you are and beg them to reschedule another interview. I have no control over the times, I'm not driving I'm just along for the ride. As I said, it is 100% impossible for me to postpone my trip in any way.

 

I will just add this, report it as spam if you want: Don't lie and say something bad happened to your family. I'm not trying to be Mr.goodie but you're in deep shit now. Karma is a bitch, and that "my dad had a stroke" is going to turn into you having a stroke when you realize you placed your life in the hands of a terrible lie.

You want a job at mcdonalds? Whatever you are leaving town for can wait. Show up to that interview and get the job. I can't believe you are freaking out about a 5 year sentence, but claim you can't go to your interview because you are "leaving"?

Lol not everyone believes in karma, so your reasoning is pointless. Lying about something isn't going to make it come true. He's not hurting anyone by lying to McDonalds to reschedule another interview, so nothing is going to come back to bite him. Go ahead and be honest if you'd like, but saying you got the days mixed up definitely isn't going to get you another interview. That's just common sense. There is only one option here and that is to lie unless you're able to leave after the interview.

My bad. I misread it. I agree with you on that. Clearly this job is important, so you really need to try and put off leaving for a couple hours and just make the interview. Whoever you're riding with will probably understand. Of course I don't know the whole story of why or what time you're leaving though. If it's really that impossible to postpone it, then I don't see many options other than lying. There are always other jobs out there too if this doesn't work out. I know finding a job can be difficult, but you still have a little time until the 22nd. You can always try a temp agency if you have one around you.

 

If you have an opportunity that has only occurred once in the past FIVE YEARS, I fail to reach a reasonable conclusion as to how you can't postpone whatever it is you're going on. Maybe your priorities are mixed up, maybe I'm sadly mistaken and you're going to some secret journey that has been established for months, or maybe you just don't want to tell whoever's picking you up that you can't make it.

Either way, your very first priority needs to be NOT whether you lie or what you do in order to reschedule the interview; it needs to be what do you need to do in order to successfully (1) have them pick you up later or (2) say screw it, realize a possible 5 years in jail depends on it, and don't go on whatever it is you're going on.

Make that interview more important than anything bro. That's all the advice you need.

 

Unless this trip you're going on is to a millionaire playboy mansion I'd just skip the trip and go to the interview or leave for your trip later. Think about it, your options are miss an extra couple hours for this interview or possibly miss the next 5 years of anything and go to jail. Prioritize and just go to the interview.

 

Holy sh... unless you really, really, really NEED to go to this silly trip... I wouldn't go. Better to get a job and get things sorted before the court date than to be screwed. If not, there's no real way to tell how McD would take you wanting to reschedule, since it is a franchise. If you decide to reschedule, the sooner you call the better.

Say your trip was a mission trip and you were helping out poor families (kidding). Just think of something that is a good excuse... I don't want to think of one for you.

 

Agreed with both Jiwi and Alex, just adding a 3rd opinion in here, I read your last thread and from what I've seen you NEED this interview, and badly.
Don't take Jags words to heart, he was honestly just trying to look out for your best intentions as well. Best of luck with your interview though, I remember my first interview I was nervous as fuck and sadly I didn't get the job because well.. I froze a lot and stuttered, you need to be prepared for this, prepare yourself, dress nicely. People say it's "just" McDonalds, but even then Mcdonalds isn't going to hire scum. Good luck!

 

If this trip is for recreation and/or not important, then skip it. Your kid is more important.

If, however, it really is an emergency, then be honest. I know that someone before me said to lie, but honestly that's just stupid. They asked you what your availability was. What you should have done in the first place was called them immediately after you noticed the mistake (which shouldn't have taken long, you should always check your schedule). However, we're past that now. Just call them and explain that you were mistaken and that you had something already scheduled for that day. Ask if it is at all possible to reschedule. If it isn't then you're shit out of luck. However, I don't think that will happen. It's McDonald's. You're not applying to Goldman Sachs. They're not going to be a major hard ass.

Also, never put all of your eggs in one basket.

 

Why is it 100% impossible? If your life is going to go into the shitter if you don't get the job, you might need to adjust priorities.

 

Think which is more important to you and attend that.
