Gaming mods and steam implements, all fantastic ideas. This is the input I'm looking for!

I think the market itself is important to sythe.org but expanding the community is necessary.

Regarding ranks for those that are "leaders in a game, etc" that's sort of what I intended when I suggested mini-ranks since they would be ranks that held importance but were not important enough to be an actual rank (ranks typically hold some trust in them - even fun ranks). Instead a lot of the mini-ranks that exist are ones that have no significance at all (not now however, they are moving into ones that reward activity which is good)

Despite people shooting down a sythe currency idea in the past I personally think it is a great idea. Take this for example http://www.sythe.org/graphics-discu...super-week-s-competitions-fun-anyone-gfx.html , albeit moonglare ran it poorly but when it did have a buy-in several people said they didn't have access to paypal or they have quit runescape so they don't have rsgp to buy-in. A sythe currency would mean that people can buy currency with whatever payment option they have (sythe could have a range of payment options) which in effect, would make buy-ins more feasible and also benefit the market itself. Matthew has proved he is an able coder with the new donations centre, he could probably code an automated sythe credit system as it would work similarly.

Also I like the idea of rewarding those that are active in the site, it doesn't happen too much currently which gives little incentive for people to stay on the site if they are not drawn into the community.

 

Exactly! And donating would give a certain amount of the tokens, but purchasing them directly would of course grant a much higher number.
As far as the miniranks, I agree as well that the function should be more like my suggestion and your original intent. I'm on classic Sythe, so I can't even see them other than profiles anyway:/.

One idea that popped into my head:

Sythe is all centered around Computers, java, RS, WOW, Graphics, etc - What if we opened up to other PC Games that had cult followings, such as Grand Strategy. Europa Universalis 3 is a game I enjoy and play more frequently then RS. We could offer weekly tournaments at different times to appease all timezones. There is no black market for it though. Other Grand Strategies include Hearts of Iron, Vicky 2, etc. Pr even Real Time Strategy such as Total War.

What ever road Sythe heads down, it should be noted that thus far the PC/Mac/Computer Desktop/Laptop has been our focal point and I believe will continue to be our strength.

EDIT: You could even compile a list of Mods, Clients, and 'How To's for many different genres of games that would be a great addition to any gaming community.

 

PC gaming makes sense, because of course it's a forums! Console gamers are also, from what I've seen, a generally younger audience.

Not a bad idea, but I think that's for farther in the future. We need to have a following in mainstream games before we can afford to move onto indie and cult titles, though I do love those games. It's just that we have had subforums before focused around games that were very small, and the first page had threads from three months ago. Users that are passionate about games are the future. I remember when (wolfdog54?) singlehandedly got our minecraft section established, the server started and got things going more than anyone ever would have guessed.

Tokens - I really don't think this would help all that much because i think it's been asked before and i don't think they want that here, because a token would cost more than you'r actually paying and if buying a bunch it's going to be almost too expensive to use a system like that.

What your talking about..."General gaming" i really think it would be nice to see people coming to sythe for persay an xbox community for cod, or some other game. It would be nice to get clans put together that may persay, represent sythe (such as a competitive call of duty team?)

It would be cool to have an official like "clan name" rank holder so like when someone would see the rank they would be like "wow he's in that clan with that rank he must be good" or something like that and would strive users to get better at the game and try to make it on a professional level team.

I think a lot of sections that are dead on sythe, really shouldn't be dead at all like the xbox section....TONS of users on sythe probably have an xbox over pc gaming, and there is some discussion in the xbox section but it's not like....real talk it's just a thread that gets posted, and may be commented on like once a month or once every few months ya know?

 

You could use these "tokens" to buy a donator rank, or to boost activity, make the market a buy-in. As in, you have to pay X amount of tokens to make a thread or even post in the market. Then if we integrated iTrader or some other plugin of the sort, you could get X amount of tokens for each completed trade. You get rewarded and known for just posting, and completing trades.

~Have a point highscore list would also help encourage users to post and climb the ladder. This means each time a user creates a thread or makes a post, they are rewarded a smaller amount then that of they would in the market or completing a trade. Sorry if my grammar is bad, rush typing this so I can go eat.

 

I don't think the tokens would be a good idea because sythe doesn't have a large enough gamer/user base to sell such things. I think what would be better is to do weekly giveaways. Big market players could donate a small part of their stock (voluntarily of course) to these weekly giveaways. It would be a win win for market members and for the site. The sellers benefit because it would bring more new members to the site who in return use their shops. The weekly giveaways could be sponsored by a person who would have their Market Thread/Shop link onto the front page of the thread for that weeks giveaway.

Also, an IRC mini-rank would be cool to promote for IRC activity. Let me know what you think..

Well, make sure it doesn't become just another "general gaming" forum. If the focus moves away from Runescape, you need to find a new common interest because that's what brings people to the site. I know a lot of people like the idea of a virtual black market, but it seems a bit too general without naming a specific game. It worked the first time because Runescape was a common interest.. but what about after Runescape? How can you ensure the future of this site when a large percentage of traffic comes from Runescape players who would have no use for this site without it?

Just my initial thoughts without reading the whole thread.

Oh, and I have some other ideas and shit too... if ya want em..

As for the rest of your ideas, I love it! I'm just trying to get a discussion going and get some opinions thrown around, and this is exactly it. Try to bring in more members and we can see some potential for progress.

It's attitudes like this that are going to keep us moving forward!

First Off the money I have is mine so get you're facts straight, what are you trying to do for the community? Let me see you donate some stock towards something. How about you just shut you're mouth and make sure you do your research and not what other people say before you run you're mouth. K thanks.

You usually just read the most popular opinion in the thread then rephrase it without adding any more additional information; using the last 8 community input things you posted on as an example..including this one.


Moving to the subject matter, the token idea seems neat, and I would love to say it could work... but it honestly wouldn't. It may or may not create a larger user base and it generates zero revenue for the website and of top of that managing and conducting all sales and any issues involved with the entire buying and selling process... all for no return? Waste of man power and time. Unless when you bought tokens you COULD NOT redeem them back for money. Then for every 10 tokens bought for example, at some point those same tokens would be cashed back for currency, and if its an equal exchange... zero revenue.

The subforums used in such great detail... if you look at all the non-runescape subforums you'll see most of them are pretty dead, I can't imagine having a library of dead subforums... Sythe has made it's name for Runescape, to try and change it would just be a wasted effort, since there are other blackmarket equivalents for popular MMORPGs and there is no real reason to switch over... would any of you guys with 1000's of post counts want to change forums and start off "new?"

Why would you go to sythe for gaming mods when you have the Nexus, why would you have console forums, when you have ign, gamespot, ps, xbox and nintendo online forums? So on and so forth.

I'm trying to give a sort of negative look on it so you guys can try and convince me it can turn out better! I honestly don't have anything to offer but criticism but I do want anyone that read all of this to have a strong rebuttal.

 

It's a nice idea, but honestly it wouldn't work to completely change what Sythe is, it's based around virtual gaming markets, and that's what it was started for. It shouldn't be changed to something else, we just need to increase market activity for other games.

Advertise. We've got a massive opportunity with the launch of the Xbox One/PS4 around the corner. Lets get onto their boards and let them know what we're about. Let them know about our Fifa coins, our CoD Boostings, our achievement/trophy services, lets let them know.

For Runescape? I don't know, haven't personally played it in a fair, fair while. Are the days of standing in World 2 GE/Varrock 07 with an auto spammer advertising Sythe behind us? Why not hold events? Advertising events, brink your tokens into it. Be it a mass spam of the GE, a posting spree on the EA forums for Fifa or closing the habbo hotel pool 4chan style. Community events to earn a token or two encourage members to stick around and get involved and build the tokens up to spend on here. Then have a Sythe shop were you can trade them back in, like a currency converter. Sell them at $1/1 token, buy them back at $0.7. (Price irrelevant)

There 100% is potential, it just needs to be grabbed and ran with, lets do it.
