Hamlet's Relationship with his mother, Gertrude, HELP PLEASE!

Hey everyone, I'm writing an essay on Hamlet's relationship with Gertrude.

"Describe the relationship between hamlet and his mother, Gertrude. Your thesis should make a clear statement about the nature of their relationship."

Soo.. basically, all I've talked about so far is the Oedipus Complex and I don't know what else to talk about, as it basically sums up their whole relationship..

Is it wrong to make all three paragraphs about the Oedipus Complex?

    Thanks a lot!! :)

    I think that's definitely a good start :)

Make sure you mention that Hamlet still has the maturity of a child, and his mother should have recognized that and not abandoned him when he still needed a mother.

Also, I know in one of the earlier parts of the play, Hamlet kisses his mother when he sees her. It is worth noting that some directors make that small kiss into a full on makeout session between Hamlet and Gertrude, although those are more extreme. You could definitely mention that the kiss can be interpreted in such an extreme manner.

Definitely talk about how Hamlet felt betrayed by his mother, that she was dishonoring both him and his father by being with Claudius. Check out the too too solid flesh soliloquy (link here http://www.shakespeare-online.com/plays/hamlet/soliloquies/tootoosolid.html)
