What happens when you die?

Pretty simple question, but it's a topic I find fascinating. What IN YOUR OPINION do you think happens when you die? Some kind of afterlife? Sent back to earth in another form? Or perhaps you believe that there's no afterlife at all?
Please don't comment saying that other people are wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

 

Idk i would hope some kind of afterlife but i doubt it. I don't even really believe in a god. Maybe some kind of limbo or permanent dream state? That would require your brain to be working so that's out of the question, i guess. I think coming back as another person would be the most fascinating thing. I would think you would come back as someone from the same time period. Maybe the future but i doubt you could come back as someone/something from the past. I also doubt your moral compass in this life would have any effect on your next life. That would imply there is a god there for implying an afterlife/heaven type place. If there was a heaven then why would you be reincarnated?

 

Interesting stuff here, quite a lot of different ideas. I've also questioned most of these different ideas. If you could choose from the ones you wrote which do you hope happens? For a long time I also believed I'd come back as someone else, would be fascinating if someone came back and somehow knew that they had lived before! Would make a pretty cool film too

Yeah I hear this one quite a bit. Did you believe in something when you were younger? Just thinking when I was younger the idea that you went somewhere was quite a supportive idea

 

I have a friend that died, and he said it was just like being asleep. There was nothing. His baby's mamma suggest that his spirit stayed in his body. I can believe that to an extent.

I believe theres 3 possible afterlife locations. Valhalla, Sessrumnir and Hel. People who die with honor, people who achieved greatness in their lives. They are split between Odin in Valhalla and Freyja in Sessrumnir. Those who die of old age that had not achieved greatness went to Hel. Being an Odinist, Hel is not like the christian Hell, its not "all" a bad place.

 

How long was he 'dead' I'm assuming he came back to life, and you aren't referring to talking to him in another form. It's really interesting to hear about near-death experiences, after all no one really knows for sure unless its happened to them.

Your belief is really intereting, is this a self-found belief or is this the belief of a religion or group?

 

It's an old Norse religion, I can't believe in a religion I consider to be created to control the masses (my opinion). I've studied many religions, and I find that the religions called "pagan" or "occult" by Christianity because it doesn't worship the same god feel the most real to me. During the crusades most of the Nordic god worshipping people were converted to christianty or murdered and it was named a pagan and "mythical" religion.

 

Wow haha, you sound like you've done a lot of research on the subject. I can completely understand your view of religions controlling the masses. People do sometimes seem to be like sheep just because of a promise of something which there is no facts to back up. But still nonetheless it's just an opinion, I wish there was more facts regarding this stuff

 

My religion doesnt have sins. we just live how we are and if we do great things, we are more heavily rewarded in the afterlife. there is no way to use it to control the followers. so the followers are pagans and their religion is myth.

I kinda hope something cool happens like reincarnation or something, but chances are we'll just rot in the ground and that's that. I'm not religious or anything so I don't have any strong beliefs on the matter.

 

I believe that there are humans but also many other species in earth and in universe. The human population is always increasing so it can't be all humans dying and getting born again in that form. I put a little more thought into this and came to a conclusion that not only humans get reborn in human form again but also species from earth and other planets so the human population keeps increasing while other species go down in number, and there are a ton of those in earth alone let alone the universe. This is my opinion.

Edit: I also believe that everything that can move can think and has a soul and can do a specific thing. If this is true, wouldn't it be unfair if you were a small bug or something if there was no other life? You would probably die in 5 minutes after birth and never be born again.

Edit2: Just to clarify, after death, humans can be born as something else as well. Again, my opinion.

 

This. I've never believed in an afterlife. I was raised by atheist and agnostic parents, but they always encouraged me to decide for myself what I wanted to believe when it comes to religion. I just believe in what I see and know, and I only have reason to believe that people die and rot.

 

Try to imagine your life before you were born.

I'd love to hear from someone who believes in the matrix theory or something. There's some really interesting theories out there. I spoke to someone who belived that we were the equivalent of bacteria on a larger creature, and when we died we progressed to the next 'level' in size. I can't exactly relate to it but it's pretty awesome

 

You go to Heaven or Hell

 

This is my personal opinion, because I believe in God and an afterlife. I believe that after you die, you go into a "sleep-like" state. Meaning, you're not conscious or aware of anything. And later on, your soul is awakened and you either go to Heaven or Hell. That's what I think.
