Edit: This is a new idea that I feel needs some thought and possibly a massive update that would change Sythe forever. Look no further! (If you choose to support this update as well, please state so in your post, otherwise you will ONLY be added to the other one)

Have you been online for hours on-end and noticed a lack of sales? A lot of us are gold buyers/gold sellers or have our own name shop/account shop, etc. Whatever the case may be, a lot of us here run a site or have at one point! The reason I have came up with this idea is due to the fact you are ONLY allowed 'one bump a day.' There's two ways to change this. Personally, I think it's unfair on Sythe's end to only allow 'one bump ever 24 hours,' because it really slows down business. Why? Because your thread is active for 1-2 hours after you bump your thread, and then no one notices it as it gets pushed back through the pages. Now, there was an instance today where I was able to get my thread bumped after making a trade, luckily. How? I posted on HIS topic and made a successful trade, and asked him to pose as he bought gold from my thread and bump it, but this is NOT ALWAYS THE CASE! (FYI, this update will be more relevant to the smaller shops at the larger shops constantly receive gracious bumps throughout the day. So, please do not give a biased opinion if you choose to post.)

Here's a solution I came up with, that most people will most likely be too scared to see the results but I feel it makes all the sense in the world. Playerauctions did the same thing, and it works wonders. Instead of listing the sellers from top > bottom via their feedback score, they classified their list through time/status. The label the sellers by delivery time: 20 min, 2hr, 24hr, 48hr. Next, they classify you by your online status: Online, away, busy, etc. Finally, they classify the sellers by their rate, and that way it makes it much more fair to the upcoming sellers. All they have to do is make sure they have a 20min delivery speed, so automatically they're on the front page, and if they have the lowest price, they're able to get just as many sales as a top-rated seller. I don't expect Sythe to set their system up exactly like this, but this was a demonstration of 'how & why' I feel this system should be implemented.

Well, I realized my suggestion wouldn't work, but I want to gather other's thought on this and find out if there's a way to fix this problem. The most easiest solution would be allowing '3 bumps every 24 hours.' It's a shame when only '2 out of 20' users are online on the front page of a 'gold sales category.' It really is. My idea was once the online/offline suggestion would be implemented, is to have a system that categorizes the threads based on who's online, instead of latest post. Obviously this wouldn't work, because you would have threads from 2 years on the front page. A solution would be to only categorize the first 3 pages using this method, so that you have all the latest posts that have been bumped and are online at the top, and the ones offline quickly falling behind.

As you can see, we need a new method because it's really ridiculous when hardly any of the front page threads are active at the time, and this is frustrating not only for any small business, but new users or anyone buying gold.

    The problem:

I noticed today as I was looking to buy some RSGP that most of the users were offline.
FYI, this update would be extremely effective, especially during the night hours.
I found myself clicking through each thread title, just to see if the OP was even online.

The same thing happened when I went to find a graphics designer just awhile ago.
I would had used any of the top GFX designers: Karma Arts, Kinaesthic, or Moonglare,
but I had to click each one of their threads to see if they were even online.

    The solution:

Next to your name, there's a green dot, for when you are Online, and a red dot, for when you are Offline; correct?
Now, my suggestion would be the same dot next to your thread titles.
This would make it a lot easier when you are looking for that 'gold seller' that is online.
And, you won't have to click through all the threads just to find one that is.

It's not meant to be a huge change. That is basically the point of this suggestion. The fact it will save those 2 seconds is what most of us want. It would be a small change, with a huge impact. Add up all of those seconds by all the people that use this site each day, and you're saving hours of time.

You mean the dot next to the list of thread names? I think that would be good for the market, but i'm not sure it's possible.

    Support if it is.

definite support if it can be implemented. This would save a lot of hassle and time having to go through each and every thread to find out whether or not someone is still online with their offer.

Donors can use hidden mode, they'll appear to be offline when they're on
Some people also leave their computer on with sythe opened, which causes them to appear online

You know how there's a green/red dot next to your name?
I think there should also be one on the thread title, so when you are viewing the threads of other members, you know who's online/offline.

Also, I'm glad to see all the support this is getting already, let's hope they can make it happen! It would be a very small update with a huge impact!

Dude, that's like saying there's no reason for an online indicator next to your name. I'm sorry, but your reasons are invalid, and this suggestion is nothing, but G.O.O.D. All it's stating, that the online indicator next to your name, would be next the thread title.

If a donor wants to appear offline, that is his business, but that's irrelevant as to why you shouldn't support this update. All that is saying, that he wouldn't want you viewing their thread. The only reason that made some sense, is the fact they would be AFK. Okay, let's think for a second. I found myself looking for who's on/offline today, and maybe 2/10 people were online during the night hours. If one of those people are AFK, at least I don't have to waste my time checking the other 8 threads, and I can PM both of those 2 who are online/AFK and find out if one of them are online. If both of them are AFK, then that's fine as well, at least I don't have to go through 10 threads to find 2 people with green dots to see whether or not they are online.

In my opinion, I think you just want to be the ugly duckling in this situation and be the only one so far to not support my suggestion. Now, don't take offence to this, but there's just no reason why you wouldn't support this unless you enjoy clicking through each thread, just to look next to their name and see if they are on/off. When I use these forums, it's almost like shopping. First, you see if they are online/offline, then you check out their thread, vouches, credibility, and accomplishments to decide whether or not to use that person's service. The first thing I said, was to see if they are online/offline, and it would save a TON of time if this suggestion was implemented on these forums.

If a Donor wishes to appear offline then having this will act just the same as the dot. It's basically just adding the dot to the thread titles. There will be no change for Donors. Something could also be implemented to kick people off who are not active on this site for a certain amount of period.

Personally I believe that it would be a lot easier to buy and sell things in the market. Support.

    Cheers~

Well said. Basically what I was thinking, but put into better words  Also, that would be another great suggestion for the forums, is an inactivity timer for like ten minutes, or so. In fact, this update and an inactivity timer would be an amazing update to these forums! I definitely think it would increase the market sales.

As I'm mainly a buyer, I'd find this very useful. However sellers will take a hit, as offline sellers will have less traffic on their threads.
Obviously the wise people on the forum will still visit offline sellers threads, for deals and trustworthy people. But unfortunately there aren't a lot of wise people on the forum.

No need for this, because it's not hard to find someone online, and if you want to use a certain selller, you'll wait to buy from them.

It can surely be done and it's not a huge mod, but it means to query the user's status at thread listing. Can be done right.

No support on the bottom of the homepage it lists everyone online anyways. Also it would cut off traffic from other threads. Don't see a need for it. Takes a few seconds to click on a thread and see if they are online or not.

Unnecessary for SOME, but helpful to MOST. It seems like the odds are n favor of 65/35, and would be a beneficial update to most people. For the ones who disagree, it won't even necessarily hurt you!

Honestly, I still can't comprehend why some of you guys don't feel this was be a good update?
Yes, it limits traffic to other threads? However, those people are OFFLINE and that is the POINT!
Also, the site only lists who's online on the HOME page.

Thanks, Steingraber for the photo. That would be such an awesome update!
