    Harteliuz guide to safe botting.

Welcome to my thread. I decided to create my own staying safe whilst botting guide because I feel the majority of the current ones are not really sufficient enough to use as they really don't have any in-depth information. There are many like this already already on the forum, but I feel with my knowledge, I might be able to push a little bit deeper into account safety but also into computer safety as a whole. Now, stop. I know what you're thinking... I'm going to go into a long and arduous guide that really doesn't explain the core principles and the basic easy to digest explanations of different types of threats, how to prevent them from threatening you and how to remove them if they do. Well, yes I am!

It's imperative for every computer enthusiast to have a basic understanding of computer security and once they understand that, they'll understand how to keep their account safe without needing to read guides and people's opinions. Every computer, regardless of your level of knowledge should have 3 things: an anti-virus which is updated, a firewall which is on and your computer should have the latest vendor updates. Remember, this entire thread isn't aimed at someone with a degree in computer security or someone with a degree in IT in general. This guide is purely a reference for in-experienced people to refer to when they want to know something.

    So, with all of the commosion regarding wBot, R.A.T's and keyloggers in general i'm surprised and almost appalled by the sheer amount of ignorance when it comes to (what should be) a very basic understanding of how to keep your account safe, i will provide a few easy steps on how to keep your account safe, but first lets look through some of the meanings regarding the subject;

    Virus
A virus is a piece of malicious code that will hide itself within an application such as a game or a popular program like Photoshop for example and when the program is executed, the virus will inject itself into the computer and do whatever it was programmed to do. Some viruses are quite silly and might only do something like open your CD tray, other viruses might replicate themselves, spread themselves from application to application to evade detection or even steal information, damage your computer's hard drive or delete crucial files which make programs work properly.

They are the sworn enemy of the anti-virus as they are always battling each other. You might think as long as you have an anti-virus installed and running, you are safe and to a degree you would be. However, as viruses have improved over the years so have their level of anti detection and evading. One example of virus evasion is FUD (Fully Undetected) this essentially encrypts the virus source code and another example is crypting which assigns hidden values into the source code which prevents the anti-virus from detecting it and quarantining it.

    Trojan
I want to clarify this again. A trojan, a worm and a virus are three different types of attacks. A trojan is a bit of a pain to explain as a trojan can have several different tasks from spreading themselves into applications, stealing information and credentials, transferring files to and from the victim's computer and to even use the victim's computer to start a DoS (Denial of Service) attack. The most popular explanation for a trojan is a keylogger or a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) not a remote administration tool, those are two different things.

    Worm
A worm is much easier to describe as it is a self transporting attack which means it can attack networks and computers on its own. A virus and trojan can't, they have to be physically executed before they can do anything. A worm basically carries a payload which could be a trojan or a virus funnily enough to a victim's computer or network and then activates that payload. There are two types of worms, active and passive. Active worms can transport themselves without human interaction while passive worms rely on human interaction. Active worms will always be looking for exploits in operating systems, DNS servers and web servers as well as any alternating traffic routes to spread their payload.

Although I've only summarized those 3 attacks slightly, there are many more types of attacks from rootkits, to bootsectors, java drive bys, silent java drive bys and so on... All you need to remember is this, keep your anti-virus updated and if that anti-virus doesn't have built in anti-malware, have one of those installed and updated. Keep your operating system updated and keep your firewall on!

    Firewall
A firewall is probably one of the most important programs that you can have on your computer. Most modern day routers will have their own firewall built in as well. A firewall is a series of rules which allows certain programs and certain ports to have inbound traffic (what comes in) and outbound traffic (what goes out). A firewall is designed to keep people out of your computer and to a degree it does. Here is a little bit of history now, the great fire of London, 1666 was a historical night. London was engulfed in flames after a bakery caught on fire. Because all of the buildings were very close together, almost touching and all made out of wood, the fire spread quickly. The name firewall was given after the houses were separated with special bricks that couldn't catch alight. They were put in between the houses as a wall and it stopped each house setting the other house alight. The idea of a firewall taking that name, essentially takes a program asking for access to your computer and if it doesn't like that access, the firewall is put up in front of that program. The program cannot do anything and your computer is safe.

There are many types of configuration options available in firewalls from access control losts (ACLs) to routing protocols, allowing certain UDP/TCP protocols, allowing and disabling certain ports and deciding what packets go where, etc.

Ok thanks, but how do i keep myself safe?

Hereby follows a list of steps i recommend you to go through to keep your account safe, in no particular order of priority:

    What is this?
Zemana proved a free anti-keylogger tool that encrypts every keystroke on your computer to prevent it from being hooked, i strongly recommend this software.

    What is this?
As previously mentioned, this will protect you from worms, run daily scans.

    What is this?
As previously mentioned, look at text above.

    • Change your password daily from a secure source such as your laptop, smartphone, etc.
    • Set a bank pin, seriously, this is so basic and if you dont have one set you run great risk of loosing your bank.
    • Use the Jagex account guardian (JAG), its great - you can configure this in your account setting at the official runescape website.

And lastly, THINK before you download anything without reviews, dont download youtube or googled .exe bots, just dont.

Credit to Jamie over at wBot, lended some parts of this guide from his, if you want parts of this taken down please pm me on here.

This isn't a botting safety guide, its a basic overview of malware.
