Some kind of alert system or mass private messages

I think sythe needs either some kind of alert system that displays announcements so you cannot miss them or you should send everyone a pm when there's a important announcement like, http://www.sythe.org/sythe-org-news/1549957-regards-skype-hackings.html

 

This idea isn't half bad :O I came back from Sythe from leave for quite a while and I found literally 1/2 my skype contacts been hacked and I found out pretty slowly. :S Automated annoucements would really help.

 

How about sending a PM to all members out there? Automated PM system.

 

That or whenever we log on when we have that pop up add another one that says something about the mass hackings.

Yeah. 1 way is that. But it doesn't catch some of the members attention if you know what I mean.
Rather have a automated PM system that is used to send out PM whenever there mass hacking has occurred etc.

Yes, because alerts about some of the biggest sellers, mods, OMMs being hacked are less important than your inbox growing in size. It should work the opposite way, you could possibly unsubscribe.

Yeah, it's a good idea, I don't look at announcements, but I always notice a PM.

Maybe base it on the activity of the person, so everyone who was active in the past X days depending on severity, will get a PM regarding whatever announcement. And an admin/global mod can send one from the modcp/admincp, in the following format:

Fairly simple to do, just a database search, and you could use the Donation Center's existing code(for the PM sending function) and check to see if the user has unsubscribed(possibly).

 

Or just send it to them the next time they login/visit the website. If there would be some kind of problem sending it to everyone at once.

 

You say that like the staff AREN'T already aware of staff/market giant hackings, despite the announcement posts WE make about it for the public. Why would I need an alert in SL, my Skype AND my PM inbox?

 

If you make it subscription based, the same members who don't read the announcements won't subscribe. Which is why I said this literally in your quoted post.

I can definitely support this. There has been an unprecedented amount of skype hackings recently, so I believe it's quite necessary to implement this.

 

I literally don't get what you're trying to endorse here... "If it's subscription based, users won't use it, so make it subscription based!" I even said in the post you originally quoted that it should be subscription based and you refuted it and supported it in the same post, meanwhile berating me-- a part of the staff from which these alerts would come from-- for not wanting to be subscribed...

 

I think what he was saying is make everyone automatically subscribed with the option to unsubscribe. I'm not sure how subscriptions work, do you get a pm every time someone posts on the thread?

 

That's essentially what I was saying too: "I support PMs only if its subscription based"

It's possible to make a thread, force everyone to subscribe to it using ACP or something, and update the thread that way, meaning everyone gets a PM and an email too if I remember correctly

 

Then that would be fine as long as everyone is automatically subscribed with the choice to unsubscribe. If we aren't going to force people to pay people back who have been scammed by their skype we should be doing everything possible to make people aware when someone is hacked ect.

 

I think i suggested this a while back but I'm pretty sure our vb is out of date. I could be wrong.

Basically, if there is an urgent announcement then the only way to browse the forum is to view the thread.
Something like:
"Please view this thread in order to continue browsing on Sythe.org".

Kind of like what villavu has when your password is out of date. Same concept.

 

No need, we have the announcement area. and the news area.

 

How is there no need when people continue to get scammed by hacked skypes because they didn't know they where hacked and don't request private messages because they aren't aware of the new rule?
