Private server owners using sythe to ban rwters

I've been wondering about this for a while and staff all have different opinions on it. Are private server owners allowed to use sythe for the sole purpose of banning people who break their tos? In my opinion it would be the same as jagex registering an account for the sole purpose of finding rwters in their game to punish for breaking their tos.

 

I don't think they SHOULD, but it does happen anyway.......

 

What about Sythe users that own an RSPS that, as a side effect of being a user of Sythe, they notice/ban RWT'ers?

There's a big difference between an RSPS and a corporate game - most/some RSPS's don't profit all that much, if anything at all. It could be said, in that case, that it is run solely for the enjoyment of the community on the server. People breaching that server's rules are fucking with the pyramid of life.

 

I'm assuming this is somewhat directed/influenced by me, so I'll post my 2 cents:

I think the way Sythe handles RSPSs is a bit silly, in a way. People are allowed to advertise their servers for free - I'm happy for this, and we've gained many members as a result. It becomes silly because, granted, we can advertise, Sythe also then provides a black market section for our servers. So you advertise and grow your server -on Sythe-... so people can then use the blackmarket -on Sythe-... hrm.

I actively browse the RSPS blackmarket section looking for threads about my server. If one's found, our staff team turns into the freakin' FBI and we do everything we can to ban the user.

So long as it's setup like this we'll encounter this dilemma, time and time again.

 

I'd be referring to the people who go the extra step of adding people on msn, talking them into meeting them in game, and then banning them at that point. Also Sanct this isn't about you, I've just been wondering this for a while because several people post on rsps threads saying "cleaned your acount, gl selling now" or something similar.

 

So pretty much, you will trade gold on runescape but wont let people sell gold on your server in case you lose $2?

 

I don't think it should be allowed to seek out people using sythe and then ban/wipe them on the private servers.

When posting your server on sythe you should accept the risk that people might want to trade items from your game.

 

The vast majority of the threads are for soul split and battlescape, in which the market is free game. The only post I can think of that you're talking about would be the recent one I made here. I could be wrong, I just thought the timing was coincidental.

Also, let's say someone scams you 5m RSGP. Okay, no big deal. But what about when it happens over, and over, and over? It begins to add up.

Give me one good reason why I shouldn't stop someone from selling gold (IE making me lose money) when I can?

Edit: I'd like to mention that we're not running sting operations here. We haven't gone out of our way, once, to try to set someone up on Sythe. The only time we get involved is when a thread is posted.

 

So you're saying that I, an RSPS player (not a staff member), deciding to correspond with someone selling or buying gold/items on a server I play (and actually care about), and subsequently them losing items/gold because of my correspondence with them, should be against the rules?

I'v seen owners of top servers selling gold here on Sythe before, I don't see the problem with it.

You act like that's a new mentality. People ALWAYS say that you don't fuck over the little man, in any sort of 'grey' or 'black' area that you associate with. Even among shoplifters, unless they're an asshole, they only do it to big chains. The ones that fuck with the little man get major shit from everyone else.

 

Who said we've impersonated anyone? I haven't, and I won't. Also, we don't take their goods - we ban their account.

Not a fair comparison, really. I have been on Sythe since early 2007 - I didn't just join in attempts to find RWTers.

Regardless, guest accounts can still view threads, in which case we'll still find the people who try to RWT.

 

Should not be allowed. Sythe is for blackmarketing, by letting these people ban people your stopping us from blackmarketing - the whole point off this website. Whats the point of an rsps section if your going to let mods off them potentially scam our rsgp/server gp?
