Idea: known unsafe account checker

I'm thinking of creating a simple application which performs the following task:

A user enters in the name of an account they are buying, or an IM address/screen name that they are trading with. If the account is a Runescape account, and it has been recovered in the past, the user will be warned of this.

What I want to know though is, as someone who doesn't really use the market these days: how useful would you find an app like this?

 

I think is this a very good idea and will improve security for those who do runescape account trades.

 

This would be a very nice feature that would help set Sythe apart from other RS trading sites! Not to mention it would also help members have safer trades so yeah I would completely want/support something like this!

 

You'd have to find a way to deter potential griefing, but other than that it seems like a solid concept

There used to be a list of recovered accounts years back, I guess someone just got tired of updating it though.

I agree, its a good idea.

 

Provided it gets updated frequently with accurate information it will be a great idea.

 

Same thing as Jack said, also I dont think many people would use/download it if it wont get stickied. Maybe if it was possible to get this program on website made specially for it with some kind of plugin for this app , then it would be much more popular?

Any measure to potentially stop a scam is worthwhile. I think it could save a lot of scams from happening.

 

I actually suggested this in the chatbox one day, was instantly bombarded with why it was such a bad idea.

"It would take too much time to keep updated"
"That's what google is for" (Searching username)
"Look at archives"

Anyways, I love this idea and I'd love to see this implemented.

If there is a current, up-to-date list of recovered/stolen accounts, then by all means, this is a really good idea.

 

Also to add, if it even stops just one scam. Then it is successful.

 

Not only recovered accounts, but also RuneScape accounts to never buy gold from also, I have a few people I could add to that.

maybe add a short field where whoever submitted can write up exactly what happened and how.

It's not worth the time and effort IMO. It'll be useful for about a month before people get lazy and stop updating it. Besides, most newbies are oblivious to recovered accounts.



Only way it will work IMO is if you have a dedicated team like 3 people who are responsible of keeping it updated. Maybe even the community support team or w.e they're called
