I personally wouldn't be so worried about it, If you haven't done anything wrong nothing to worry about.

    Please address this Sythe.

I feel that some people that use it will read into it too much.

I think this isn't totally necessary. Not "an invasion of privacy" so much, more just not needed? Just my two cents thrown into the mix.

There's a big disclaimer on the feature page that explains why you might be linked with other accounts even when you have had no interaction with them.

What does the hashed IP represent? What does it mean?

There is an IP check available to certain developers for checking IPs, however this is only used in limited circumstances. The objection to making this more widely available have been on the grounds of privacy. An IP hash would help this situation by enabling any account to be matched to an IP hash without making the IP publicly available.

Ah okay, so each IP has a unique IP Hash but this IP Hash does not reveal the IP itself?

Essentially, yes. It was also really confusing to me at first.

A hashcode is a (more or less) one to one mapping of unique codes to unique things.

Think of a hash like a barcode on an item in a store. Just looking at the the barcode you can't tell you what item it represents. But if you were to write down all the barcodes for all the items in your trolley you could tell how many of each item you had, because each type of item is maps to one barcode.

Likewise here, each unique hashcode maps to one unique IP address. So without revealing what the IP address is, you can still see how many people are sharing it. (And thus whether or not its likely to be a proxy or a private IP.)

Pretty cool feature. Now there's less of a chance to get scammed by ban evaders. :D

This is an awesome feature! I can now confirm what I already knew! The fact that, I happen to match Steph (ex-admin) and Yakov (ex-global mod) and I have logged in way to many ip addresses with sythe.org :)

@Sythe, thank you for hashing the ip addresses :)

You should add it to quicklinks and/or make a sticky in market discussion regarding it

Say Sythe, this actually made me think of something.

Why don't you guys write a script that runs through all users / IP's to check for matches in the IP's and the hashes. This way vaders and such would be found way more faster. Ofcourse the more you'd want this automised the more of work it would be. But vaders for an example would be caught way faster.

Or is that a bit to hard to code & check?
It never hurts to bring up ideas and suggestions I guess.
