Question for Sythe in Regards to Stolen Goods

What about avoiding the question? Should the responsibility be put on the seller to disclose the origins of the gold even if it doesn't come up? Assuming I bought gold that was duped off a reseller, he knew the gold was duped and the seller later posted proof the reseller knew but me and the other 50 people who bought the gold weren't aware it was duped because we never asked the question would anybody be punished?

Once again, the fact remains, Gold4Fun seems to be unaware of the rules.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I will be making sure Jason understands that is unacceptable.

    jason's reply.

He does indeed have 10 convos going.

Of course, that also means the gold4fun agent could have been in the same situation.

Is this why Viou was banned? I can see you really know what you're doing Sythe.

It just proves though that this isn't exactly an easy problem to fix. Do we all deserve perm bans?

Let's make this clear. Knowingly accepting stolen goods is not going to be tolerated moving forward. The consequences for doing it have not been set in stone yet but it isn't going to be an instant ban.

Question for Sythe in Regards to Stolen Goods

Should Kevin not be banned though? I like Kevin and he's one of the most legit members on this forum but it seems the same standard isn't being held across the forum, one admitted to it and one was just caught attempting it in most cases getting caught has been worse than admitting to it. R2P's agent was just caught whether intentional or not it happened and in a court of law ignorance of due diligence would not grant you amnesty. Maybe Kevin over looked it but he accepted to vouch for the hacked gold.

Also are we talking moving forward from your post or Sythe's? If Sythe's post then we have already moved forward... or was Viou banned to be made an example of?

Corey quoted me above saying we don't know the origins but Kevin flat out said he would vouch for the hacked gold. I'm sure if you asked Kevin he would apologize for the mistake but would this make it right or should his pardon be "fucking vetoed" as well.

Question for Sythe in Regards to Stolen Goods

Actually, the line I used with Gold4Fun was quite vague.

Saying you just recovered an account can certainly mean your own RS account. It doesn't mean it was someone else's. Not saying that Jason even noticed that, but I am saying that it wasn't clearly communicated that it was a hacked account.

With Kevin's chat, it's much more clearly a stolen account.

We aren't going to be handing out bans for a first offence. I also believe there is going to be amnesty for any prior incidents.

Question for Sythe in Regards to Stolen Goods

Then why is Viou being punished for his previous incidents? I'm not butt hurt or anything I'm just really curious because one staff says one thing and another says another, one stated we would ban them and now you're saying not for first offences. I would just like to know for future reference and I'm sure many others want to know as well to avoid a ban.

One big difference. Viou did accept $ via Lebenfire through PlayerAuctions, knowing it was fraud. That is a whole new ball game. He filtered Leben's frauded funds through PA, knowing PA would be out the money. That's the thing I saw in Viou's post where I said, WTF.

We are going to be updating the rules so that it is clear that it is not allowed and so that there is a common punishment. I do not believe that we will end up issuing bans for first offences in the future. I was not involved with Viou's banning and his status could change.

I thought that is what he meant by the chat. Selling gold to someone using stolen real money not selling real gold. I could be mistaken. I wasn't really involved.

Question for Sythe in Regards to Stolen Goods

Oh for heavens sake. I leave this thread for 12 hours and everyone is spouting nonsense on it again.

Selling duped or risky gold without telling the buyer that it is duped or risky IS fraud. This is allowing the seller to assume erronously that the gold is normal gold obtained by normal means (i.e. botting or farming by hand.) It is lying by omission and selling under false pretences.

If I sold you an icecream but neglected to tell you it was laced with cyanide, do you really think that just because "the buyer never asked" you are free of responsibility? No there is an implicit agreement that the icecream is edible, and likewise there is an implicit agreement that the gold you are buying is not duped or stolen when you buy gold.
